It was a perfect spring day in Southern Minnesota on Friday and it turned into a great night for racing as Chateau Raceway Powered by Miners Outdoor & Recreation presented week 2 of the 2008 racing season.
It's Wednesday, May 14, and the sun is shining brightly on the quiet town of Oskaloosa, Iowa. And while the weather forecast calls for pleasantly warm temperatures throughout the day and evening, the "quiet" part is not expected to continue as another exciting season of Wild, Wild Wednesdays at the Southern Iowa Speedway kicks off tonight with the season opener for the USRA Casey’s General Stores Weekly Racing Series.

Defending champion Mark Dobmeier raced out to a half-lap lead then held off Justin Henderson and Danny Lasoski in a six-lap shootout to record his first USRA Outlaw Sprint win of 2008. Brock Dump emerged victorious after a torrid battle with Jody Rosenboom in USRA Championship Sprint action while Tyler Johnson scored the USRA B-Mod win and Craig Hanisch took the trophy in the USRA Hobby Stocks.
Another great week leading up to another rainout. With great weather all week the crews have been busy putting the final touches on many needed projects only to have Mother Nature wash away all of the hard work.
After three straight weeks of cancelations the Mountain Dew Bloomfield Speedway opened with six exciting classes sponsored by IA-MO Grain and Community First Bank and the return of the Junior Fan Club for the young racers sponsored by Sue Guiter in honor of Reggie Guiter.
Chateau Raceway powered by Miners Outdoor & Recreation opened its 2008 season with a nice field of cars scattered over six classes of action Friday night. After five weeks of rain, snow and generally cold miserable weather wiped out the first month of racing, it was great to see the cars take to the one-third-mile oval and its fresh new layer of clay that was laid down last fall.
Despite early pressure from brother Whitey, Jess Folk Jr. took the USRA Modified feature Friday, May 9, at Humboldt Speedway with little drama. The dramatic performance of the event was turned in by Jessy Willard, who started fourth row inside and finished second.
The season opener at the Cresco Speedway has been delayed one more week due to the extremely wet conditions at the Speedway. Soggy grounds has not allowed for proper time to work on the track and we do not want to start the season out with a rough racetrack.
The sun shone brightly at the Kasson Speedway for the first time in 2008 and the races were hotly contested in all six regular divisions at the Southern Minnesota speedplant. Eighty cars were on hand for the regular season opener, which saw some greatly contested battles in all six divisions.

Clint Garner survived several restarts and held off a hard-charging Wade Nygaard to score his first USRA Outlaw Sprint win in several seasons at Huset’s Speedway. The race ended with a red/checker condition when Nygaard flipped in turn 4 as he attempted to capture the top spot one last time.
After receiving one inch of rain in the past 24 hours, the crew at Deer Creek Speedway went about the task of preparing the racing surface for their season opener. It was the opener but it didn’t feel like it to many as the four week delay from Mother Nature took away some of the hype normally associated with the opening weekend.
For the second time in as many weeks, Johnny Bone Jr. bested the best that Humboldt Speedway has to offer in USRA Modifieds. What transpired in feature action this week was truly a pleasure to see.
After four straight rain-outs,the racing action at the Lebanon Midway Speedway will try again this coming Friday night, May 2.
NCSI is hoping the weather holds out for the Nobles County Fair Association Frost Buster this Sunday, May 4.

For the second straight season, AMP Energy Drink will sponsor the “AMP Dash” at the Kasson Speedway. This season, AMP Energy Drink will back the USRA Modified division weekly. However, a new program was created to attempt to get more money into the hands of drivers that don’t often see the winners circle in the main event, and spread the purse out a bit.
O’Reilly USMTS National Tour drivers got an early start to their Spring Break on Thursday when USMTS officials announced that all three events scheduled for this weekend have been postponed due to heavy rainfall in the Southeast Iowa and Northwest Illinois area.
