Oronogo's Bobby Pearish grabbed the opening lead and withstood a late-race challenge from veteran Rex Merritt and a wild full moon night to capture his first Budweiser USRA Modified feature win at the Springfield Raceway in 2012.

Bobby Malchus was the USRA Modified feature winner. Clyde Dunn Jr. was second, Troy Taylor was third, Jacob Pirkle finished fourth and Brandon McElroy wound up fifth.

The Sunset Speedway Park once again will delay the start of the first race of the season due to conditions of the grounds, cancelling the Saturday, May 5, event.

It was time for the USRA Modifieds at El Paso Speedway Park for their season debut Friday. With a rubbered-down track and a full house it was Royal Jones that started and ended the race in the #1 spot.

Mother Nature so far has not been kind to the fans or drivers at the Mineral City Speedway, raining out the first two attempts to get the opening night show in. But despite severe weather that dumped hail on Fort Dodge around race time Friday night, a good crowd was on hand for the season opener with 88 cars and drivers signed in to kick off the 2012 campaign.

The thunder, lighting and rain held off just long enough for Eric Kanz to take the track in the evening’s USRA B-Mod feature, build up a huge lead on the pack and grab the feature win in commanding fashion.
