Miller earns second consecutive victory at Grays Harbor the hard way

ELMA, Wash. -- Another terrific USRA Modified feature took place at the Grays Harbor Raceway on Saturday, May 19, with Scott Miller taking the checkered flag for the second consecutive race. The Shelton chauffer in the Blue Bear Park/Blondie’s Restaurant #26 had to earn his money as he had to come from the back of the bus after spinning on the opening start.
The main event did indeed start out rough when Scott Miller got sideways and ended up being a multicar wreck which involved some very fast cars. On the restart Craig Moore of Seabeck took care of business and grabbed the lead in his D&C Competition Engines/Williams Family Salsa #14 entry. Moore appeared to be the car to beat until his car slowed down quickly while working on lapped traffic and he came to a halt brining out the caution flag on lap eleven.
On the restart Cosmopolis driver Tom Sweatman inherited the lead and was looking for his first win in his third start in a USRA Modified. The D&D Dyno/MASCO Petroleum/Sweatman Trucking #11 led the field until Scott Miller had worked his way up into second and was chasing down Sweatman. A caution on the fifteenth lap bunched the field up and allowed Miller to make a pass on the inside to take over the lead.
Later in the race on another restart Scott Miller checked out as Aberdeen driver Joe German and the Westport Brewing Company/Shamus Brewing Company #9K of Morgan Criswell from Vancouver battled with one another for second place. German was able to shed Criswell and began a run on Miller for the lead until on lap twenty-seven his Power Train Application/CCS Industrial Services #75X slowed to a halt and came to a halt.
That would be the final stoppage of the night and Scott Miller perfected the restart to go on and win his second race of the season. It was the first USRA Modified feature not to end with a green-white-checker scenario this season.
Tom Sweatman would finish in second place for the second consecutive week and Del Schnitzer of Shelton finished in third. Morgan Criswell would be the fourth place finisher as defending champion Joe German completed the top five finishing fifth.
Craig Moore was the fastest of sixteen cars in qualifying with a time of 16.724 seconds. Heat race winners were Scott Miller, Morgan Criswell, and Joe German. The USRA Modifieds return to the Grays Harbor Raceway for the Spring Showdown this Saturday and Sunday.
