Sayre earns USRA Modified victory at Sunset Speedway Park

BANKS, Ore. -- It looked for a little bit that Saturday would not get completed due to a rain shower that soaked the Sunset Speedway Park right after qualifying, but the staff at the Banks bullring waited the shower out and was able to save the racetrack and complete the night’s scheduled events. Sonny Sayre of Vancouver, Wash., took over the lead right around the mid-point of the race to capture his first feature of 2012.

The lead was exchanged several times amongst three drivers before Sayre was able to take over the position on lap 12. Brett Eakins was the original leader for a handful of laps before the Dancin Bare #23 Rayburn of Chris Quinn was the new leader by lap three. Quinn, also from Vancouver, would only lead until lap seven when fellow Washingtonian Robert Jenner moved into the lead. Five laps later a new leader appeared and that would be Sonny Sayre who drove his Bullet Proof Racing/Jacobus Carstar #50 BMS to victory lane.

Ricky Ashley of Jasper in the Seth Anderson Racing Engines/Dan Herman Computer Consulting #85 X-Factor worked his way up to finish in second place despite starting in the eleventh position. Danny Daniels in the Dancin Bare #4D4 Razor was third followed by the Dancin Bare #31 of Tony Hendon of Portland in fourth and Mike Sweere in the Sweere’s Auto Body #63 completing the top five.

The Discount Racecar Parts #01 FRI of Chris Halberg from Sandy was quickest out of the twenty two cars at a time of 15.392 seconds while Danny Daniels won the trophy dash. A consolation feature was ran and the John’s Frame Shop #4 Probuilt of Gresham’s Trent Croy won the event and other transfer cars included Vancouver, Washington’s Kenney Miller in the KFM Racing/VP Braille Services #57 TRE, Donald Schott in the Schott’s Paving #11X McCoy, and finally Sean Fox of Rainier in his #11 entry.
