In what may be a first in organized racing, three of the four drivers that captured the USRA Casey's General Stores Weekly Racing Series titles in 2007 repeated the feat in 2008. Brad Waits captured his second straight USRA Modified crown, while the same can be said for Tom Schmitt (USRA Karl Chevrolet Stock Cars) and Matt Jones (USRA Karl Chevrolet B-Mods). Jason McDaniel (USRA Hobby Stocks) won his first title after finishing second last year.

Defending O’Reilly USMTS National Champion Jason Krohn notched his fourth main event victory of the season Tuesday with an impressive wire-to-wire run at the Cresco Speedway. Krohn drew the pole for the 40-lap Holley "A" Main, and when the green flag dropped, that was just about as close as anybody got to the flying farmer from Slayton, Minn.

The Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa, was ready to host the 13th Annual MUSCO Lighting Great American Stock Car Shootout, but Mother Nature intervened with rain and caused the event to be postponed. Action is still on as planned for Thursday, July 3, at the Cresco Speedway in Cresco, Iowa, for the 5th Annual Kabrick Distributing Great American Stock Car Challenge, while the event at Oskaloosa has been postponed to next Wednesday, July 9.
