Iron Man Challenge on tap at Upper Iowa Speedway Sept. 27
DECORAH, Iowa -- The Upper Iowa Speedway will drop the curtain on its 2014 campaign this Saturday, September 27th. Due to a rainout on Season Championship night in late August, the Upper Iowa Speedway will host both Season Championship and the Iron Man Series for the USRA B-Mods and Stock Cars. In addition the USRA Hobby Stocks will also be competing on Saturday night with all the other regular classes.
In the USRA Iron Man B-Mods, Cory Crapser leads the Iron Man Challenge standings by 74 points (1347 to 1273) over Dan Wheeler with just three points races remaining. Jacob Bleess is third with 1127 markers, followed by Jared Timmerman (1109) and Dustin Kruse (721).
In the USRA Iron Man Stock Cars, Tom Schmitt leads the Iron Man Challenge standings by 13 points (1117 to 1104) over Mitch Hovden with just three points races remaining. Kyle Falck sits in third with 976 tallies, followed by Steve Jackson (966) and Phil Wernert (825).
The USRA B-Mod track championship is still up for grabs between Matt Jones who leads Dan Hovden (1182 to 1171) by only 11 points. Likewise, a battle for third is still up for grabs between Casey Knutson (1102) and Chris Weigert (990) with only 12 points separating the two drivers.
A costly slip up by either USRA Stock Car driver could cost Mitch Hovden or Kyle Falck a track championship on Saturday night. Currently, Hovden leads Falck (1111 to 1109) by only 2 digits heading into the final night of racing. Dan Jones sits in third (1046) and Dillon Anderson in fourth (1014) heading into the final night of racing.
In the USRA Hobby Stock class, Steve Holthaus leads fellow veteran driver Scott Splide (1132 to 1086) by 46 points. Only 10 digits separate Splide and third place Brady Link (1076).
The table is set for a Saturday night showdown in the valley this weekend. Hot laps are scheduled to start 6pm with racing to follow. Ticket prices are $15 for adults with kids 11 and under get in for free; pit passes are $30. The following weekend, Oct. 1-4, all four USRA divisions will converge on the Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., for the inaugural USRA National Championships.
