Sports Park Raceway ready to rock 2023

Following in the footsteps of a fantastic 2022 racing season, officials at the Sports Park Raceway in Fort Dodge, Iowa, have announced preliminary plans for another explosive campaign in 2023.

“There are some changes, but most of what fans and drivers and applauded last season will return in the upcoming season,” said track owner Jeff Frevert, who will again serve as the General Manager.

With the departure last month by Bryan Denekas as the track’s promoter, in steps Ryne Staley as the new promoter of the Friday night events which will once again feature United Plant Services USRA Modifieds, Marsh Concrete Medieval USRA Stock Cars, MechaniCo USRA B-Mods, Pickett Salvage USRA Hobby Stocks and Matt’s Tire Service USRA Tuners.

Staley, whose father Todd Staley is the President of both the USMTS and USRA, in addition to operating the nearby Hamilton county Speedway in Webster City, Iowa, will handle the nightly operations on Fridays featuring the Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series.

The historic half-mile dirt oval in fabulous Fort Dodge boasted one of the best-prepared racing surfaces in the region this year, and Lance Deal will be in charge of keeping it that way in 2023.

The facility will continue to host fast and furious Friday night racing programs and operate under the United States Racing Association banner for sanctioning of the five weekly divisions.

Just like last season, the Sports Park Raceway will partner with the Hamilton County Speedway and Mason city Motor Speedway to provide an incredible three-night weekend of racing.

A practice date of Friday, May 5, is scheduled with opening night happening one week later on May 12.

In addition to the five-division weekly shows, some special events will dot the schedule too. The Nostalgia Dirt Series will appear three of four times in 2023, and there are tentatively three nights featuring the DTRA Dirt Truck Series.

The Heartland Challenge featuring a 10-hour ATV and 4-Hour UTV/SXS Endurance Off-Road Cross-Country Racing Series will be back again in 2023 with multiple events featuring the action-packed Iowa ATV Hare Scramble Series.
