Chisholm in charge, smokes USRA B-Mods in Featherlite Fall Jamboree

As it has for four straight years now, the USRA B-Mod main event on Saturday night at the Featherlite Fall Jamboree ended with a Chisholm in victory lane.

While Jim Chisholm scored three in a row, younger brother Joe "Smoke" Chisholm made it a sweep in 2022 by winning two preliminary features before capturing Saturday’s $1,500-to-win finale.

The 16-year-old from Osage, Iowa, had the worst redraw of the nine top qualifiers and started on the outside of the three-wide third row.

The reigning Deer Creek Speedway track champion got a late start as he slipped back into 11th by lap 2, but then slowly maneuvered his way to the front, cracking the top 10 on the fifth go-around and then breaking into the top five on lap 9.

When the leaders crossed beneath the flagstand on lap 15 of the 30-lapper, Chisholm had a bumper’s advantage over race-long leader Shaun Walski.

Despite several cautions that kept the field within striking distance, Chisholm was in charge the rest of the way as he cruised to his third win of the weekend and bolstered his odds as the favorite to win this season’s Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series National Championship in the USRA B-Mod division.

A former two-time USRA B-Mod national champ, Brand Hare settled for the runner-up paycheck for a third straight night.

Scott Demmer ran among the top five the entire race and settled for a third-place finish with Dustin Kruse finishing fourth while Taylor Skauge charged from 18th to fifth. Polesitter Shaun Walski held on for sixth and seventh was Colby Mann.

Bob Timm, his family and the staff of the Mississippi Thunder Speedway in Fountain City, Wis., put up $500 for the race’s hard charger. The money went to Cole Lonergan, who raced from the 30 starting spot to eighth at the finish.

Brody Shaw was ninth and Alex Zwanziger came from 22nd on the grid to round out the top 10 finishers.

Kris Jackson, who won two of the four feature races on Thursday and Friday, was never a threat in Saturday’s championship race. The former USRA B-Mod National Champion started 18th and was near the top 10 late in the race when he dropped out, settling for a 21st-place paycheck.
