Dylan Koyn Open Wheel Spectacular set for May 21 at Creek County Speedway

KELLYVILLE, Okla. -- On May 21 the Dylan Koyn Open Wheel Spectacular will take place at Creek County Speedway. USRA Champ Sprints, Injected sprints, E-Sprints and the SOWS Midgets will be racing for $20,000 in prize money. A portion of the proceeds will go to benefit 15-year old Dylan Koyn.

Dylan is the most courteous and most polite 15-year-old boy that you will ever meet. He always meets you with a smile and a hug. On October 17, 2009, he was playing video games with his brother when he became short of breath. He was rushed to the local emergency room. The hospital was unable to determine his problem so his parents took him to another hospital in Tulsa.

After performing several tests the hospital then delivered the news to Dylan’s parents Steve and Laura. Dylan was in kidney failure. The hospital immediately moved him to OU Children’s Hospital in Oklahoma City, were he started dialysis. Dylan’s family had to travel to the City 3 times a week for his dialysis. Dylan needed a new kidney.

As parents, we would do anything for our children. In April 2010 his Dad, Steve then began preparing to give his son the kidney that he needed. Several tests had to be done first. Steve had a lump on his throat that concerned the doctor so a biopsy was performed. When the results came back it was determined that Steve had Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, Stage 3. When Steve told his employer, he was laid off. On May 11, Steve had to begin chemotherapy.

As of October 2010, the doctors have determined that the cancer is gone.

Meanwhile, Dylan was still on the waiting list and continuing dialysis, then the family received news that Dylan would be taken off the waiting list. The family would not accept this and continued with their faith. On March 7, Dylan received a new Kidney, and continues to take dialysis three times a week. The doctor released him to attend his first race of the 2011 season at Creek County Speedway on April 9.

As you can imagine, the past two years has financially burdened the family. The family was forced to give up their home. With the help of Laura’s family they have a place live.

For each driver that pre-registers before the May 14 deadline, $5 will be contributed to the family. General admission will be $15 for adults, $12 for seniors 60 and above, $7 for children ages 6-12 and children 5 and under are free, with part of the proceeds going to the Koyn family.

Smiley Sitton, of Smiley’s Outlaw Driving School will be on hand with his two-seated 410 Sprint Car. One ride will be drawn from a general admission ticket, one ride will be raffled and one ride will be auctioned by Smiley’s Pit Crew to the highest bidder. All proceeds will go to the Koyn family. Also, race fans will be able to purchase souveniours from Smiley’ T-shirt trailer with part of the proceeds going to the family.

The race family of Creek County Speedway hopes that you will join them May 21 for an exciting night of racing and help contribute to the Koyn Family.
