Falck wins Summit Shootout Qualifier, Dan Hovden gets 150th career win at Fayette County Speedway
Kyle Falck won the Medieval USRA Stock Car main event.
Sunday night at Fayette County Speedway in West Union, Iowa, was the spot to be on Labor Day Weekend as the Medieval USRA Stock Cars, USRA B-Mods and USRA Hobby Stocks were in action alongside the Summit USMTS Modifieds for the 10th Annual War in West Union.
The race was also a $1,500-to-win Summit Shootout Qualifier for the Stock Cars, and Decorah’s Kyle Falck made the most of his pole position as he led the 35th and final circuit of the 3/8-mile speedway. Despite starting and finishing first, it was far from an easy win for the driver of the No. 67 as he withstood constant pressure from several of the top finishers.
Midway through the race, fellow Decorah racer Mitch Hovden was able to take over the top spot as he used his high line to get around Falck on the bottom. Hovden led a total of five laps, but Falck was able to get back around Hovden with less than 15 laps to go on to claim the win.
In the final five laps, Hovden was passed by the hard-charging Josh Zieman of Plymouth, who was coming off a win the previous night at Deer Creek Speedway. Zieman started eighth in the feature and worked his way to the runner-up spot.
Hovden finished third while Joe Chisholm of Osage finished fourth. In fifth was Waukon’s Dan Jones, while Troy Hansmeier of Waukon was the hard charger of the race, advancing eight spots to take sixth.
In the USRA B-Mod class, the win went to Dan Hovden of Decorah. The victory marked the 150th time in his career that he has won a feature race. The win was also Hovden’s fourth straight and ninth overall of 2022 at Fayette County Speedway.
Taking second was Joe Chisholm, giving him a pair of top-four finishes on the night, while Postville’s Josh Roney took third. Fourth place went to Protivin’s Ben Moudry and Brandon Hare of Elma took fifth.
The hard charger of the race was Gavin Shaw of Brownsdale, Minn., who advanced 13 spots to take seventh. The race was Shaw’s first of the year at FCS.
Chris Hovden of Cresco took the checkered flag first in the USRA Hobby Stock feature as he locked in his first win of the year in the final event of the season at FCS. Hovden followed early race leader Devin Holthaus closely through the first 10 laps of the race, but was eventually able to work around him.
In second was Steve Larson of Decorah, who moved ahead nine spots to get the strong finish while Brady Williamson of Rushford, Minn., took third. In fourth was Adam Speicher of Fredericksburg while Justin Lichty of Waterloo was fifth.
The hard charger of the race—and the overall night—was sixth-place finisher Josh Ludeking of Decorah who started 20the (dead last) on the field and took sixth.
