Ayers finds first, Havlik completes ‘hat trick’ at Sports Park Raceway
Daniel Ayers won the USRA Hobby Stock main event.
Familiar faces and first-time winners graced victory lane Friday night as the Sports Park Raceway powered by Fort Dodge Ford Lincoln Toyota presented Fan Appreciation Night presented by People's Choice Credit Union.
Five classes of action for the Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series was headlined by double features for the USRA Modifieds with Waterloo’s Devon Havlik scoring wins in both the first and last features of the night.
In the makeup feature from the rain-shortened July 22 program, Havlik held off a hard-charging Webster city duo in Mark Elliott and Greg Elliott while Cole Ferguson of Dexter and James Allbee of Adel completed the top five.
Havlik did it again in the night’s regularly-scheduled main event, racing from the sixth starting spot to take the win while the Elliotts were once again second and third with Greg getting the best of Mark this time.
Fourth and fifth-place money went to Brandon Coffman of Nevada and Ferguson. It was the third straight win for Havlik and sixth overall this season at the fast ‘n’ fun half-mile dirt oval.
In the Medieval USRA Stock Cars, Bill Crimmins of Fort Dodge found his way to the winner’s circle for the fourth time in 2022 and narrowed the gap between himself and fellow Fort Dodge racer Myles Michehl to just nine points in the track standings.
Michehl settled for runner-up honors with Jeff Lyon of Duncombe, Josh Monthei of Jefferson and McCain Jennings of Algona rounding out the top five finishers.
Ty Griffith of Webster City has now won two-thirds of the USRA B-Mod main events this year with his eighth win in 12 starts on Friday.
Hunter Longnecker of Woodward finished second and climbed to within one point of Jason Bass for second in the standings. Levi Chipp of Latimer, Taylor Elliott of Webster City and Jerid Ratzke of Webster City finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
Daniel Ayers of Webster City picked up his first checkered flag in the USRA Hobby Stocks as he bested Lincoln Miller of Eagle Grove and a trio of Fort Dodge drivers—Jeremy Crimmins, Bryce Sommerfeld and Riley Crimmins for top honors.
In the USRA Tuner feature, T.J. Williams of Fort Dodge also nabbed his triumph of the season with Chris Eddington of Clarion and Rippey’s Breanna Ades following Williams to the finish line.
Next event: The Sports Park Raceway will be silent over Labor Day Weekend before returning to high-speed antics on Sept. 9, for the first of three straight Friday nights that will close out the 2022 campaign.
The Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series featuring USRA Modifieds, Medieval USRA Stock Cars, USRA B-Mods, USRA Hobby Stocks and USRA Tuners will be on tap, along with an appearance by the vintage stock cars of the Nostalgia Dirt Series
