Brierton wins battle, Hartline the war at Rocket Raceway Park
Billy Brierton won the USRA Modified main event.
Despite a hot night in North Texas, fans and competitors alike made their Saturday night pilgrimage to the Rocket Raceway Park for Bobcat of North Texas Night featuring the KR Cup presented by Parkway Buick GMC and the final Rocket Challenge event of the season.
Leading off four divisions in the Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series, the USRA Modifieds gave the fans a show with Billy Brierton of Greenville bringing home the winner’s paycheck.
Shane Hartline of Ivanhoe was the runner-up and secured the Rocket Challenge points championship for the class. Wayne Melton of Caddo Mills, Kenny Gaddis of Diana and Jack Sartain of Terrell rounded out the top five finishers in a tough field of racers.
The Medieval USRA Stock Cars saw David Whittle of Muskogee, Okla., nab his second feature win of the year while points leader John Winters of Pattonville earned second-place money.
Brennan Wood of Emory was third, Kevin Flock of Muskogee, Okla., finished fourth and the fifth spot went to Cody Cline of Sulphur Springs.
Blake Beggs of Terrell kept Brierton behind him in the USRA Limited Mods main event and out of victory lane for a second time Saturday while Beggs motored to his first win in 2022 at RRP.
Mabank’s Gregory Muirhead bested tenth-starting Shannon Hartline of Ivanhoe for third while Dustin Sprouse of Crandall was the fifth driver to cross beneath the checkered flag.
In Sunoco USRA Factory Stock action, Brandon Stowell of Powderly took the win. Paris pilots Deaon Redmon and James Proctor were second and third, respectively, with Kilgore’s Austin Hail fourth and Brandon Bettis of Detroit in the fifth position.
On the launch pad: Next Saturday, Aug. 13, is Championship Night for drivers in the KR Cup presented by Parkway Buick GMC. Action will feature Medieval USRA Stock Cars, USRA Limited Mods and Sunco USRA Factory Stocks, plus Buckmeyer Motorsports Eco-Mods, Camp Gladiator-Emory Junior Limited Modifieds and Optimum Collision Trooper Cruisers.
The pit gate opens at 5 p.m., grandstands open at 6:30, the draw closes and drivers meeting begins at 7:45 and hot laps begin at 8 with the National Anthem and racing to follow.
The Rocket Raceway Park holds 3,400 spectators and its elevated grandstands offer superb viewing from any seat. The venue can be found in Lamar County—about 15 minutes west of Paris and 25 minutes east of Bonham. The physical location is 16369 US-82, Petty, TX 75470.
