Lucas Ward won the USRA B-Mod main event.

The state-of-the-art Vado Speedway Park was back in action on Saturday, July 23, with the track’s first Meet the Drivers Night of the season and the highlight of the night saw Lucas Ward race to his first ever feature win in the USRA B-Mod division.

The USRA B-Mods were the race of the night with ninth-starting Ward emerging on top of a late-race scramble in impressive fashion.

Donnie Newcombe got out front from the pole at the start of the 20-lap event and led early with heavy pressure form Donavon Flores, José de la Fuente, Justin Allen, Christy Barnett, John Carney and Greg Gorham.

Newcombe was able to withstand the pressure early in the race until Flores was able to sweep by into the lead and drive off out front.

Several cautions bunched the field and kept Flores close the field and that was all Ward needed as he was able to use the low line to perfection and steal the lead from Flores on the final lap and hold off the former USRA Stock Car National champion to the finish line.

Flores ran second with Allen, Barnett and Carney rounding out the top five.

The Vado Speedway Park will be back in action on Saturday, July 30, with the track’s final Meet the Drivers Night of the season where fans will be allowed to go onto the front stretch at intermission to meet and greet with their favorite racers. Gates open at 5 p.m. and racing begins at 7:30.

For fans not able to attend in person, all events held during the 2022 season at the Vado Speedway Park will also be live streamed online at WatchFYE.tv.
