Einck wins emotional fair race at Winneshiek Raceway
Keagen Einck won the USRA B-Mod main event.
There simply aren’t words to describe the atmosphere at Winneshiek Raceway Tuesday night during the USRA B-Mod main event. It’s not often that the entire crowd is pulling for one driver, but that very well may have been the case during the 25-lap feature race at the Winneshiek County Fair.
It was La Crescent, Minnesota’s Adam Rogich that set the pace early, but less than 10 laps in, crowd favorite Keagen Einck took over the lead. Despite a flurry of attempts to get past him by a strong field of competitors behind him, Einck held on to get the emotional win.
The win marked Einck’s first of the season, but for the young driver, it was about much more than that.
“I was leading the fair race a few years ago and spun out on the last lap,” said Einck, whose entire family is extremely active in the fair year after year. “I think I definitely had some help getting this one.”
Keagen dedicated the win to his younger brother, Karter, who was tragically killed in a car accident in December of 2021.
“I don’t even know how to describe the feeling right now,” said Keagen in Victory Lane as he was embraced by family and friends.
Dan Hovden of Decorah went on to finish second after charging ahead six spots in the feature, while Matt Jones of Waukon was third. In fourth was Taylor Skauge of Caledonia, Minnesota, while Decorah’s Kyle Anderson rounded out the top five.
In the USRA Stock Car feature, Mitch Hovden gave his hometown Decorah fans plenty of reason to cheer as he captured his third win of the season at the track. He moved up from his fourth-place starting spot and led the majority of the race, as Waukon’s Chance Hillman came home second and Brayden Gjere of Mabel, Minnesota, took third. Gjere had won the last two Winneshiek County Fair races as he and Hillman battled side-by-side for much of the 25 lap feature.
In third was Blake Adams of McIntire, while Danny Cole of Lansing finished fifth.
Dylan Clinton added another win to his impressive 2022 resume in the USRA Hobby Stock class as he got around early leader Josh Ludeking (Decorah) at the midway point of the race. Chris Hovden of Cresco charged ahead six spots in the race to take second, while Decorah’s Paul Seabrooke finished third. Ludeking ended up in fourth, while Steve Larson of Decorah finished fifth.
The USRA Tuner feature winner was Jeremiah Anderson of La Crosse, Wisconsin. He advanced five spots in the 16 lap feature, holding off runner-up Braiden Schaufenbuel of New Hampton in second and Brad Stahl of Castalia in third. In fourth was hard charger Justin Anderson of Holmen, Wisconsin, while Josh Harms of Postville took fifth.
Winneshiek Raceway will be off Saturday night for the fair, but will return to action on Saturday, July 23, with four USRA classes competing.
