Moseley muscles to second USRA Stock Car victory at Vado

Rob Moseley won the Medieval USRA Stock Car main event.

Rob Moseley won the Medieval USRA Stock Car main event.

The Vado Speedway Park in Vado, N.M., was back in action Saturday with another Hot City Nights event featuring Ranch Milagro USRA Modifieds, S&J Automotive Medieval USRA Stock Cars and Hacienda Carpet & Tile USRA B-Mods.

Twenty-five Hacienda Carpet & Tile USRA B-Mods took the green for the 20-lap main event with Mingo Jauregui racing from his fifth starting spot to the lead and taking command early, only to have the race marred by a half dozen caution flags and kept the field bunched up throughout the entire event.

Jauregui, Christy Barnett, Dickie Gorham, Eric McNutt and Jesse Haynie battled out front during the green flag runs with Haynie able to sweep by both Barnett and Jauregui into the lead before a green-white-checkered brought the race to a merciful end with Haynie winning over a photo finish between Jauregui and Barnett for second.

McNutt ran fourth and 18th-starting Justin Allen crossed the line with a fifth-place finish.

The S&J Automotive Medieval USRA Stock Car main event was up next with Sherman Barnett pacing the field to the green flag and leading the opening lap before sixth-starting Rob Moseley blasted from the third row into the lead and never looked back.

Behind Moseley, Bryan Bennett, Jonathan Burton, Josh Reynolds and Jason Josselyn were in a solid race for the runner-up spot. Bennett got to second first and tried to track down Moseley out front, while Burton and Josselyn were trading paint for third.

Moseley was able to outlast Bennett and race off to the win with Bennett second at the line. Burton crossed the finish line third and after post-race disqualifications, Fred Gibson was awarded fourth and Craig Walker fifth in the final rundown.

The final event of the night was the Rancho Milagro URSA Modified 25-lapper and Jake Gallardo raced from his eighth starting spot to the lead early in the feature and was never contested, leading all 25 laps and driving off to an easy victory.

Jimmy Ray ran in second for much of the event with Fito Gallardo third early until he and Ray made contact, damaging Gallardo’s car and forcing him out of the event. Ray was able to continue and tried to stay with Gallardo out front, but fito Gallardo's son was too strong and dominated the event for the win.

Royal Jones and Christy Barnett moved in to battle with Ray for second in the late stages of the race and Jones was able to use the high side to steal the runner-up spot on the final lap, crossing the finish line in second with Ray third, just ahead of Barnett and Duane Murphy.

The Vado Speedway Park will be back in action Saturday, June 18, with the track’s annual Father’s Day Weekend event. Gates open at 5 p.m. and racing begins at 7:30.

For fans not able to attend in person, all events held during the 2022 season at the Vado Speedway Park will also be live at WatchFYE.tv.
