Gallardo, Burton speed away with Vado victories

Jonathan Burton won the Medieval USRA Stock Car main event.

The Vado Speedway Park in Vado, N.M., was back in action on Saturday, June 4, with another Hot City Nights event featuring the summit USRA Weekly Racing Series.

The Medieval USRA Stock Car main event was a good one as well with fifth-starting Jonathan Burton coming out on top of a race-long battle out front with Rob Mosely, Bryan Bennett, Jason Josselyn and Dustin White.

Daniel Sanchez Jr. and Sherman Barnett paced the 20-lap feature to the green but it was Burton who got to the top spot first and tried to drive away out front, but Bennett and White stayed right with Burton for the lead, not allowing him to get away.

Moseley and Josselyn, who started 11th and 12th, respectively, made their way into the battle while Bennett, who spun and had to restart at the tail, was also in the mix at the end.

Burton, however, raced off to the victory with Moseley edging Bennett for second at the line. Josselyn and White rounded out the top five.

The final event of the night was the URSA Modified 25-lapper and it was just one of those nights. The race had multiple cautions and was a lengthy event, but when the checkered flag flew, seventh-starting Fito Gallardo beat tenth-starting Jake Gallardo to the line after a one-lap dash to determine the winner on the final lap.

Jimmy Ray led early from the outside of the front row with pressure from Rocco Gallardo, Christy Barnett and Nick Rivera, but a lot of caution flags plagued this event, slowing the action on multiple occasions.

Fito Gallardo was able to race into the lead and drive away out front with Jake Gallardo battling with both Jake Boles and Terry Tipton at one point during the event and also having to contend with 18th-starting Royal Jones for second toward the end of the race as well.

Fito Gallardo was able to withstand a slider from Jake Gallardo on the white flag lap to secure the win with Tipton racing from 11th to third, followed by 14th-starting Greg Gorham in fourth and Boles rounding out the top five.

The Vado Speedway Park will be back in action Saturday, June 11, with another Hot City Nights event. Gates open at 5 p.m. and racing begins at 7:30.

For fans not able to attend in person, all events held during the 2022 season at the Vado Speedway Park will also be live streamed online at WatchFYE.tv.
