Duvall dominant USRA American Racer Modified Series debut at The Rev

Mother Nature put the USRA American Racer Modified Series presented by Day Motor Sports on a two-month hiatus, but the USRA Modifieds came roaring back Saturday night in the second event for the newly-formed series and first-ever at The Rev in Monroe, La.

Also known as Revolution Park, the state-of-the-art venue attracted 43 competitors and a huge crowd of spectators for the event which featured an afternoon of great food, live music, kids jumpers, face painting, cold beer and a crawfish eating contest.

As the sun began to set, however, the big dogs were let loose and at the end of the 30-lap main event it was Joe ‘Big Daddy’ Duvall standing in victory lane and hoisting the $3,200 winner’s check.

Duvall, from Claremore, Okla., was dominant in the series debut at Dylan Scott’s dirt oval, leading every circuit from the pole and taking the checkered flag going away.

For Max Eddie Thomas of Quinlan, Texas, it was his second runner-up paycheck in as many starts, but that propelled him into the early-season points lead.

Former USRA Modified touring series titlist Triston Dycus of Maypearl, Texas, held off ninth-starting Tyler Davis of Haysville, Kan., for third, while reigning King of America champ Brooks Strength of Raymond, Miss., rounded out the top five.

Tommy Cannon, Chad Shivers, Jason Sartain, James McCreery and 17th-starting Chris Huckeba completed the top 10 at the finish line.

Before a lap was even turned, three drivers—Davis, Sean Gaddis and Thomas—were each winners of $100 cash courtesy of American Racer during the pre-race drivers meeting. Cade Dillard Racing and S&S Fishing & Rental handed $300 to Dycus as the highest-finishing CDR customer.

Not to be outdone, Joel’s Auto Sales and the RPM Speedway in Crandall, Texas, awarded $200 to Travis Mosley as the race’s hard charger. The RPM Speedway also doled out $100 to the top driver in points at the bullring managed by Kevin Rogers and Kevin Sustaire. That $100 bill went to Thomas.

After two events, Thomas leads the ARMS standings by 12 markers over Davis. Huckeba is third with 156, followed by McCreery (146), S. Gaddis (140), Dycus (136), Michael Walker (130), Kenny Gaddis (113), Rodney Sanders (100) and Duvall (100).

Round 3 of the 2021 campaign for the American Racer USRA Modified Series presented by Day Motor Sports heads back to the Lone Star State for a doubleheader on Friday, June 11, at the West Texas Raceway in Lubbock, followed by a date at the Route 66 Motor Speedway in Amarillo on Saturday, June 12. Each event will award no less than $2,000 top prize to the winner.
