Tyler Wolff won the USRA Modified main event.

Four night of racing at four dirt ovals in Arkansas and Texas produced four different winners as the American Racer USRA Modified Series powered by Day Motor Sports wrapped up the Labor Day Weekend swing with a howling good finish at the RPM Speedway in Crandall, Texas.

Midlothian’s James McCreery paced the first five circuits before Tyler Wolff came screaming underneath at the flag stand to lead the sixth lap of the Ronnie Sigman Memorial.

Heavy lapped traffic and four cautions dotted the 48-lap main event, but nothing phased Wolff as the 38-year-old from Fayetteville, Ark., sped to a $4,800 triumph behind the wheel of his No. 4W ARMI Contractors MB Customs chassis powered by an Elusive Competition Engines powerplant.

“I knew that these locals are no slouches, so I was trying to give it all I can on those restarts,” said Wolff after his win. “I knew how big (the restarts) would be for us, but being up front with those guys behind us I didn’t know how that was going to work out. I’m just glad we got it done. This track turned out to be pretty dang good.”

The only thing that had a chance at thwarting Wolff’s hunger for victory was Mother Nature, who deemed it necessary to open the skies and dump rain on the event just before the final three feature races.

When the rain subsided, track crews immediately went to work and produced a smooth, fast racing surface to give the racers and fans an explosive trio of finales.

“The track was absolutely amazing,” Wolff added. “I can’t express how excited I was to see them work at it because they could have rained it out, but they stayed after it and it obviously paid off.

Delayed by more tan an hour, Wolff crossed the finish line topless but on top with a full second to spare after a yellow flag with four to go gave hope to his chasers.

“This right here is pretty cool because my dad is not a very big fan of topless races. I enjoy them—they’re kind of fun—so to be able to win one makes me happy. I sat in the bleachers here three years ago with Tanner Mullens and watched because we didn’t make it, so to come back and get some redemption… I'm very happy about it.”

With seven different drivers holding down second place at one time during the race, tenth-starting Bo Day of Greenville wound up with runner-up honors while ninth-starting Chris Henigan of Marshall and 13th-starting Tyler Davis of Haysville, Kan., took the checkers in third and fourth place.

For his efforts, Davis earned the Dickson Transport Hard Charger Award.

Former event champion Clyde Dunn Jr. of Rockwall completed the top five while Sean Gaddis, Dennie Gieber, Colton Horner, Kenny Gaddis and McCreery rounded out the top ten.

Deatherage Opticians awarded prizes to all heat race and Day Motor Sports “B” Feature winners, including Davis, Henigan, Kevin Rowland, Max Eddie Thomas, Chase Wascom, Kale Westover and Wolff.

ARMS Nationals coming in October: The final event of the 2023 campaign for the American Racer USRA Modified Series powered by Day Motor Sports will happen on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 27-28, when the rocket Raceway Park in Petty, Texas, hosts the 2nd Annual ARMS Nationals.

The event will pay $2,000 to win on Friday and a top prize of $3,000 on Saturday. In addition to the USRA Modifieds, the event will also showcase Medieval USRA Stock Cars, USRA Limited Mods, Sunoco USRA Factory Stocks and Eco-Mods both nights.

Located about 15 minutes west of Paris and 25 minutes east of Bonham in Lamar County, the Rocket Raceway Park is a 3/8-mile clay oval which holds 3,400 spectators and features elevated grandstands that offer superb viewing from any seat. The venue can be found at 16369 US Hwy 82, Petty, TX 75470.
