Chisholms, Hovden top Labor Day Duel at Deer Creek

Jim Chisholm won the USRA Modified main event.

Jim Chisholm won the USRA Modified main event.

It was another hot and sultry evening at Deer Creek Speedway for the Heavy Hitch Labor Day Duel. The World Of Outlaws Case Late Models were in town with the USRA Modifieds and USRA B-Mods on the card.

Additional support for the event was provided by GRP & Associates along with Orchard Creek Transportation. Orchard Creek kicked in additional $250 for second and third place finishers in the Modified feature.

The Kid’s Dreams Come True USRA B-Mods showed up in force with 50-racers in attendance. They ran five heat races under the passing points system to qualify.

Two features were then contested with the odd finishers in passing point racing the first feature and the even numbered finishers going to the second feature.

Josh Roney jumped from row one to take the lead in the first main event. Roney was chased by Kyle King and Trevor Fecht. After a lap four caution, Tyler Johnson moved into the mix and went three wide for the lead with Roney and King.

The driver on the move was Joe Chisholm who started 11th and flew into the top three. Chisholm zoomed to the lead on lap eight. The race was marred by several yellows and eventually went to a green, white, checkered scenario with a couple of laps cut off.

Chisholm led those laps to score 14th win of the season. Dustin Kruse ran a strong second with Harley Dais in third. Johnson ended up fourth and Miah Christensen charged from 15th to fifth.

In the second 20-lap feature, Scott Demmer and Brandon Hare wrestled for the lead until Hare took over on lap three. Hare led when a caution came out when Ben Moudry slowed.

On the restart, Taylor Skauge who was in third slowed and that moved Gavin Shaw to second and 11th starter Dan Hoven was up to third. Another yellow slowed the race on lap 17.

Hovden shot to second on the restart and then challenged Hare for the lead. Hare spun and the yellow came out once again. Hare went to the tail and Hovden was the leader.

Hovden led the final circuits to pick up his 18th win of the year. Kadden Kath made a late race charge to second after he started 14th. Hunter Kennedy was third from 11th while Jackson Hale came from 16th to fourth and Cole Lonergan was fifth.

Twenty-five cars started the 30-lap Tri-State Challenge for the NAPA Auto Care Centers USRA Modifieds. Blake Arndt took the lead on lap one, but Dan Ebert snuck past to lead the first lap.

Jake Timm was close and they had a good three car race. Jim Chisholm moved in and passed Arndt and then set after Timm. Ebert led while the top three ran in a tight pack. They continued their close race for several laps.

Timm was scored the leader on lap 15 while Ebert and Chisholm continued to stay close. Chisholm took the lead on lap 16 and pulled away a bit.

The lead pack was now in lapped traffic and Brandon Davis was up to third from the 10th spot and Jeremy Nelson was in the top five mix. The leaders worked through the traffic and Timm along with Davis closed in on Chisholm.

Chisholm held on for the $3000 payday with Timm in second. Davis wound up in third while Nelson got to fourth and Ebert rounds out the top five.
