Schwebach has storybook night at Deer Creek
Nick Schwebach won the USRA Hobby Stock main event.
It was season championship night at Deer Creek Speedway on Saturday. Another incredible field of 148 cars filled the pits this week.
The show was supported by Kibble Equipment along with Randy & Sandy Norby and Pinicon Farms.
Three drivers picked up their first Deer Creek track championships—one in very dramatic fashion. Two others added to their impressive résumés.
The Meadow Greens Golf Course USRA Hobby Stock feature had more drama that anyone could have expected. Chris Hovden came into the night with a 36-point lead over Luke Schluetter and 39 points over Nick Schwebach.
Blake Schneekloth led from row one as the pack was three-wide behind him for second. Scott Dobel took the lead on lap two, but Schluetter drove from 12th to the lead on lap four when a caution slowed the race.
On the start there was a huge melee with eight cars involved in turn one. There was another yellow, and at that point Hovden left the track with issues.
He returned but was a lap down, and that opened up the point championship for Schluetter and Schwebach.
Schluetter led and Schwebach got to second from the tenth spot. Schwebach snuck past for the lead on lap 15 but a caution came out on lap 17 to set up a green-white-checkered dash to the finish, but another caution on the start increased the intensity for the next restart.
On that start, Schluetter dove inside of Schwebach in turn two and they were door-to-door into turn three. The pair rubbed slightly coming into turn four and it was a drag race to the finish.
Schwebach won and took the track title by two points.
Schwebach’s run from tenth also secured him the Podein’s Power Equipment “King of The Creek” title as well. He and Brandon Davis were tied in that point battle coming into the night. Even if he had won, Davis could not receive enough points to win the title.
Schluetter finished a close second with Justin Hansen third. Dobel ended up in fourth and Gavin Bartel finished in the fifth spot.
The Kid’s Dreams Come True USRA B-Mods had 47 entries so they were once again split into two features. Harley Dais led the first feature and was challenged by Scott Demmer. Jett Sorensen was in the mix also.
Sorensen got to second and closed in on Dais. Sorensen used the top groove to take the lead on lap 11, but Dais was still close. Ben Moudry entered the picture and raced Dais for second. They reeled in the speedy Sorensen in the late stages of the race.
Sorensen ran the ragged edge up top and it bit him coming out of turn four with the white flag in the air. Sorensen tagged the wall out of four and came to a rapid stop. Everyone avoided contact and the yellow came out.
Dais held off Moudry for his second straight win. Moudry was second with Brian Shaw in third. Demmer would finish in fourth and Noah Grinstead came from 11th to fifth.
Jayden Larson led the first lap of the second feature. Joe Chisholm took over on lap two and took off. Despite a couple of yellows, Chisholm zoomed to his 11th win overall this season.
Brandon Hare finished second while Gavin Shaw stormed from 13th to third. Taylor Skauge finished in the fourth position and Hunter Kennedy was fifth. Kennedy also nabbed his first track title as well.
Blake Adams and Kyle Falck had a good race going early on in the Rochester Chevrolet Medieval USRA Stock Car feature. Adams led until lap four when Falck took over. Danny Cole ran third in the first part of the race.
A couple of yellows slowed the race the, last of which was on lap 14. Brayden Gjere took over second on the start and then went three wide with Adams and Troy Hansmeier for second on lap 16.
Falck went on for his third win of the season. Adams ran second with Gjere third. Gjere was also crowned point champion for his first title. Hansmeier was fourth and Shawn Peter finished fifth.
Blake Arndt and Mitch Madery paced the 26-car NAPA Auto Care Centers USRA Modified feature. Arndt took the lead and was challenged by Lucas Schott. Schott used the high groove to take the lead on lap three.
Jim Chisholm quickly worked to second and set after Schott. Kylie Kath ran in the top five but came to a stop to trigger a caution on lap 11 with a drive shaft issue.
On the restart, Chisholm took the lead while the driver on the move was Parker Hale, who started 12th and used the cushion to charge up to third. A yellow on lap 16 closed everyone back up.
Chisholm continued to lead but Schott, Hale and Davis ran three wide for second. Davis would take the spot, but Chisholm was long gone.
Chisholm took the win with Davis second. Davis also picked up his sixth Deer Creek track championship. Hale ended up in third with Rodney Sanders fourth and Josh Angst fifth from row six.
