Alan Roy Memorial goes big this Friday at 67 Speedway
With event sponsorships, lap leaders bonuses, long tow and hard charger awards, the Alan Roy Memorial this Friday, July 21, at the 67 Speedway in Texarkana, Ark., is shaping up to be one of the biggest nights of the year for USRA Limited Mod drivers.
As of Monday morning, the Alan Roy Memorial will dole out a Godfather-sized $3,535 to the winner, plus a minimum of $135 to every main event starter and $35 per lap led.
In addition to USRA Limited Mods, the show will also feature USRA Modifieds, Sunoco USRA Factory Stocks and USRA Tuners. USRA B-Mods are invited to race with the Limited Mods.
John “Alan” Roy passed away on July 6 at the age of 62. He was born March 18, 1961, in Texarkana, Texas, to the late John “Odis” and Peggy Ann Roy.
Known as “The Godfather” of Red Lick Racing, Alan Roy starting his racing career in 1981. He garnered more than 70 wins in multiple divisions while racing all over the Ark-La-Tex region. His love of racing was instilled early on in his sons Aaron Roy and Adam Roy, and his legacy will be continued by his sons and grandchildren for many years to come.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Brenda Barnes and brother Kevin Roy. Alan Roy is survived by his wife of 40 years, Anita Duke Roy; two sons and daughters-in-law, Aaron and Calyse Roy, and Adam and Lauren Roy; grandchildren, Raelyn, Raysen, Braylon, Kylie, Brynlee, Payce and Paisley; sisters, Cathy (Gerald) Wagstaff, Christy (Bill) Dixon, Stephanie Roy and brother James “Critter” (Mary) Roy; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
In his honor, the Alan Roy Memorial payout is as follows: 1. $3535, 2. $1535, 3. $1035, 4. $835, 5. $735, 6. $635, 7. $535, 8. $435, 9. $335, 10. $235, 11-20. $135.
Additionally, there is an award of $300 for the longest haul, $300 for the hard charger of the race and $250 for last chance qualifier.
The pits open at 4 p.m., grandstands open at 5, hot laps begin at 7:30 and racing starts at 8.
General admission grandstand tickets are just $15, kids ages 6-12 are $5 and children 5 and under get in for free. Members of the military are just $10. Pit passes are $35 with kids 5 and under free.
Texarkana, Ark., which is located right up against the Texas border, has its share of connections to auto racing history. It is the birthplace of racing legend Parnelli Jones, who captured three USAC Sprint Car titles, the 1964 USAC Stock Car crown, and won the 1963 Indianapolis 500.
The 67 Speedway is a 1/4-mile semi-banked clay oval located east of Texarkana on I-30 to exit 7, then 0.5 mile southeast on SR 108, then 2.6 miles northeast on US 67 to 10641 US-67, Texarkana, AR 71854.
