Darren Shaw won the USRA Modified main event.

Darren Shaw won the USRA Modified main event.

One hundred sixteen cars checked in for McCarthy Auto Group Night at I-35 Speedway as everyone came together as a family to celebrate the life of one of the good guys, Michael Silkwood. We had great racing as the T&T Builders Kids Power Wheels racers joined us for the first time in 2023.

USRA B-Mods and they left the fans on the edge of their seats. Numerous battles throughout the field heated up the crowd as Tyler Cadwallader and Daniel Harris duked it out for their first win of the season at I-35 Speedway.

When the checkered flag flew it was Cadwallader, the defending track champion, standing tall in victory lane. Points leader Harris finished second.

Another battle that left the fans in awe was that of Corey Myers and Truman Asher. Myers finished third with Asher fourth and Josh Barnes had a great run finishing fifth.

The Medieval USRA Stock Cars brought a season high 20 entries as drivers are gearing up for the Finish Strong Mike Tanner Memorial on June 10—a race that pays the winner $2,020 as well as a boost in pay throughout the feature.

Doug Keller picked up his second win of 2023 as he drove the low line to perfection and held off stout competition with Kristchon Hisel finishing second, Scott Carlson third, points leader Jeff Dixon fourth and Shayne Bailey recovering from an earlier incident in fifth.

USRA Modified driver Darren Shaw came into the season with a new number on the side of his race car. Shaw added a 7 to his familiar number 11 and parkedk his No. 711 machine in McCarthy Auto Group Victory Lane for his first win of 2023 in only his third start.

Shaw rode the very outside of the track, almost jumping the cushion a few times but the veteran driver would not be denied. Points leader Houston Johnson moved up to finish second, Lee Hibner ran inside the top three most of the race and finished third.

Chad Clancy was in numerous battles as he finished fourth and Austin Johnson in his first race of the season motored his way up to a fifth-place finish.

Congratulations to the fan of week Garrett Scott sponsored by Sparky Racing, Dunwoodie Racing, Daniel Pettit Racing, Bud Wilson Family Racing, Aaron Jones Racing, Skinny Pedal Express Racing and an anonymous donor in memory of Michael Silkwood.

Fans and drivers I-35 Speedway would like to thank everybody has joined us so far in the 2023 season and those of you that helped raise money for the Silkwood family. This is truly a family sport, in without all of you, none of this would be possible.

Join us next week for Highway 36 Auto & Diesel Night as the vintage cars make their second appearance at the famed dirt oval known as I-35 Speedway.
