Johnson, Dishong, Turner snare Murray Memorial mains at I-35 Speedway

Houston Johnson won the USRA Modified main event.

Houston Johnson won the USRA Modified main event.

One hundred forty cars checked in for the CSI Overhead Door Cletus “Mudcat” Murray Memorial at I-35 Speedway on Saturday. Fans were treated to some of the best action as we all came together to celebrate the life of a legendary champion at the track.

To start the season, Houston Johnson set a goal to win track championships in both the Midwest Limited Late Models and USRA Modifieds. Johnson has started the season out on fire as he works toward that goal.

For the second time in 2023, he doubled up on the night winning both. The win in the USRA Modifieds gives Johnson his second win in the division.

Tyler Hibner—a two-time feature winner in his own right—finished second.

Lee Hibner garnered a top-three finish with Tyler Grooms and David Coates having good runs in fourth and fifth.

Shadren Turner picked up his third win on the season in the USRA B-Mods. The win didn’t come easy in the early stages of the race as he swapped the lead back and fourth and had a classic battle with Daniel Harris and Tyler Cadwallader.

Harris finished second, Cadwallader third, Corey Myers fourth and Austin Charles fifth.

Chris Dishong picked up his first career win in the Medieval USRA Stock Cars in his first start. Dishong led from the drop of the green flag and led wire to wire.

Doug Keller worked his way up to a second-place finish, Gerald Wahwahsuck stayed up front to finish third, newcomer Travis Shipman was fourth and Anthony Robertson held tough in fifth.

In five weeks of racing the Medieval USRA Stock Cars have produced five different winners.

Congratulations to this week’s Fan of the Week winner Brad Hanshaw sponsored by Lisa Burlington photography, Shadren Turner racing and JDB Videography & Design.

Join us next week for Dixon Construction Concrete Night as the fearless drivers of I-35 Speedway try to best one another again.
