Chris Henigan won the USRA Modified main event.

Chris Henigan won the USRA Modified main event.

The monster machines of the American Racer USRA Modified Series presented by Day Motor Sports made their maiden voyage to the Boothill Speedway on Friday night with a fiery main event before defending series champ Chris Henigan closed the door.

The wildly popular 3/8-mile dirt oval in Greenwood, La., hosted 130 entries for the program, including 29 USRA Modifieds.

Chris Dawson made the eight-hour drive from Lubbock, Texas, and found himself on the pole to set the pace for the start of the 30-lap main event.

He was able to fight off several challenges, including an early barrage by Kenny Gaddis and then just edging Tyler Townsend at the line with five laps down before the first of three cautions slowed the pace on lap 6.

Henigan shot past Townsend on the restart and, after a couple of tenuous laps with Dawson, blasted into the top spot with 10 or 30 laps in the books. From there, it was all Henigan as the Marshall, Texas, pilot took the checkered flag with a 6.748-second margin of victory.

Meanwhile, Dawson held strong for runner-up honors with Townsend third while 15th-starting Sean Gaddis bested 19th-starting James McCreery for the fourth position.

Sixth through tenth at the finish line were Kenny Gaddis, Dennie Gieber, Chase Wascom, Tanner Barnhart and Jimmie Williams.

Henigan—the third different winner so far—netted $2,000 for his efforts as he chases back-to-back series titles.

With three shows in the books, the 2023 campaign for the American Racer USRA Modified Series presented by Day Motor Sports is just getting started as 20 events remain on the calendar.

The schedule features 23 nights of racing at 15 of the finest dirt ovals in Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas. Each of the venues will host one or more events with a minimum of $2,000 to win and drivers earning points for the series points fund as well as Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series national points.

In other Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series action on Friday, Connor Mewborn of Texarkana, Texas, won the USRA Limited Mod main event over Aaron Roy, Dustin Henigan, Derick Grigsby and J.D. Ammons.

Chase Hatton of De Berry, Texas, topped the 40-car field of Sunoco USRA Factory Stocks. Joshua Worn, Cody Myers, Ross Cook and Justin Whitehead completed the top five.

USRA Tuners saw eighth-starting Greyson Wooten of Texarkana, Ark., get the win over Luke Dupont, polesitter Brandon Harrod, Travis Armstrong and Wyatt Williams.

On Saturday, fans and drivers can see what all the buzz is about with a full night of racing planned at the Super Bee Speedway in Chatham, La.
