The full-fendered USRA Karl Chevrolet Stock Cars invaded the Highway 3 Raceway Thursday for Round 2 of the Dart Iron Man Challenge. Against a stout field of veteran stock car pilots, Mike Van Genderen looked like a super hero with a thrilling drive from last on the first lap of the main event to hoisting the winner’s trophy 19 laps later.
Ryan Gustin handily won his heat race, then drew the outside of the front row for the main event Wednesday night at the Southern Iowa Speedway. The 19-year-old from Marshalltown, Iowa, beat polesitter Ryan Ruter to the flagstand by a bumper to lead the first lap, but that proved to be as close as anybody would get.
