Four first-time national champions in four divisions have been crowned for 2013 in the USRA Weekly Racing Series.

Rules for the 2014 USRA Weekly Racing Series are complete and are available on the USRA website, officials from the United States Racing Association announced today.

Lakeside Speedway is continuing its affiliation with the United States Racing Association (USRA) for the 2014 racing season, officials from the track and USRA announced today.

Drivers in the two open-wheel divisions are locked in tight battles with razor-thin margins that will come down to the final night of racing while the leaders in the two full-fendered divisions have simply to wait until Oct. 20 to be crowned USRA national champions.

Terry Phillips took the lead when the green flag waved and crossed the finish line 50 laps later with a nearly five-second cushion over runner-up Jeremy Payne as he dominated the non-stop main event Saturday night at the inaugural Sunflower Showdown presented by Kenny’s Tile at the Lakeside Speedway.

Jeremy Payne topped the USRA Modifieds and Brad Smith captured the USRA B-Mod main event Thursday night on Seeburg Muffler Qualifying Night #2 at the Sunflower Showdown presented by Kenny’s Tile.

Nic Bidinger cruised to victory in the USRA Modified “A” Main while Yancy Shepard avoided a last-lap melee to claim the USRA B-Mod main event Wednesday on opening night of the inaugural Sunflower Showdown presented by Kenny’s Tile.

Aaron Marrant finished of the regular season in grand style by winning the USRA Modified feature Friday night at the Lakeside Speedway while Jake Richards made the best of a borrowed car in the USRA B-Mod feature by taking home his third trophy of the season.

Tickets for the inaugural Sunflower Showdown presented by Kenny’s Tile, set for Wednesday-Saturday, Oct. 2-5, at the Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., are still available.
