Ihrke, Hare repeat at Deer Creek Speedway

SPRING VALLEY, Minn. - A breezy Saturday found over 120 cars filling the pit area at Deer Creek Speedway for the fourth race of the season on Saturday, May 1. A little under two months ago three feet of snow covered the speedway and now we are in full swing.

Jay Ihrke, fresh off his win at the last race, sat on the pole for the EZ Fabricating USRA RHS Modified feature event. Ihrke jumped into the lead under hot pursuit from Josh Angst. Mike Sorensen quickly moved into third with Darrin Walch and Tim Donlinger battling for fourth.

A restart with two completed again saw Ihrke in the lead while the mid pack of the field was dicing it up hard two and three wide for position. By lap seven Ihrke had built up a good lead only to have another caution fly. On the restart Sorensen and Angst raced hard for the second spot behind Ihrke. Donlinger got around Walch on the restart as Sorensen got credit for second on the next lap.

With Sorensen now solidly in second Donlinger looked to try and get around Angst for third. Coming out of four the two touched and with great control both headed for the wall in turn four and regained control of their mounts with Donlinger dropping back a few positions in the tassel. With sixteen completed Donlinger again moved under Walch for the fourth spot.

With nineteen completed Sorensen started to gain on Ihrke up front but to no avail as Ihrke took home his second straight win. Sorensen came home second followed by Angst, Donlinger and Walch in the top five.

The Mitchell Dam Bar USRA Karl Performance Parts B-Mods have had yellow fever their first three weeks but seemed to have things sorted out tonight. Kylie Kath jumped out to the early lead with Curtis Engen and Colter Deutsch racing for second early on. With two down Kath pushed up allowing Engen and Deutsch to moved up and race for the lead. The two were racing hard as Deutsch momentarily lost the handle of his machine dropping to the back of the pack before getting going again.

Brandon Hare was on a charge and was in third with five down as Kath pushed up in four allowing Hare to charge through on the bottom and into the lead. Eight down and Engen was again challenging Kath for second with Bob Bunne hot on his tail. Engen took the spot while Jake Timm and Dan Tenold were racing for fifth.

With fifteen down Kath had problems negotiating a slower car dropping him back to mid pack. Hare cruised home to a sizeable win ahead of Engen, Timm, Tenold and Tyler Groenedyk.
