Ihrke ends five-year winless drought at Deer Creek

SPRING VALLEY, Minn. - Deer Creek Speedway sees some of the best USRA RHS Modified racing in the country and Saturday night was one of those nights.

Zack VanderBeek took off on the drop of the green flag for the EZ Fabricating USRA RHS Modified feature with Colt Mather and Tom Paulson racing for second. Paulson took over the second spot as Jason Cummins moved up to challenge Mather for third. Behind them, Mike Sorensen and Bob Timm were side by side for fifth.

Timm took over fifth, and as Cummins cleared Mather for third Timm followed through into fourth. With six completed, Cummins moved under Paulson for second as tenth-starting Jay Ihrke worked past Timm into fourth. Three laps later Ihrke moved past Paulson for third with Timm following through into fourth.

Ten complete and Sorensen worked past Paulson for fifth spot. With fifteen completed, lapped cars came into play as Cummins sat on VanderBeek's rear bumper. Just then, the yellow hanky waved and on the restart it was a new ball game.

Ihrke moved under VanderBeek through one and two as he slid up in front of the leader to take over the top spot. Timm led the next lap as he tried to work under Ihrke but Ihrke regained control of the race on the next lap running the higher momentum line.

Two laps later, Josh Angst jumped into the fray and worked under Timm and Cummins into the second position. Cummins held onto third as Timm and Sorensen were again door to door for fourth.

Ihrke came home with the win -- his first feature win at the Deer Creek Speedway since the summer of 2004. Cummins got back around Angst for second with Sorensen and Timm rounding out the top five.

In the Mitchell Dam Bar USRA Karl Performance Parts B-Mods, Brandon Hare took the early lead with Mike Jaeger close in second. Hare ran low while Jaeger put his mount up against the wall on the speedway.

A restart with two down saw Jimmy Broseit working on Jaeger for the second spot. Two laps later another restart saw Jake Timm move into the second spot while Dan Tenold moved into third while Jeremy Smith, Colter Deutsch and John Warrington battled for fourth.

With ten completed Tenold and Smith were close behind Timm as another caution flew over the speedway. Hare again paced the field with Timm into second and Tenold in third trying to move into the second spot. Kylie Kath moved below Deutsch and Smith to take over the third spot and with thirteen down worked under Timm for the third spot as Tenold moved into second.

At the line it was Hare, Tenold, Kath, Timm and Warrington rounding out the top five.

Racing action resumes next Saturday, April 24, at 5 p.m. with action in the USRA RHS Modifieds and USRA Karl Performance Parts B-Mods, plus four other classes.
