Fito Gallardo won the USRA Modified main event.

In front of a packed grandstand on a beautiful night for racing, three drivers made their way to victory lane during the Las Cruces Hot City Nights event at the Vado Speedway Park on Saturday.

The first feature of the night was the Hacienda Carpet & Tile USRA B-Mod main event and featured a ton of passing and an incredible race-long battle out front between 15th-starting Justin Allen, 19th-starting Donavon Flores, 10th-starting Dustin Smith and defending track champion Mingo Jauregui for the majority of the event.

Dickie Gorham took the led the opening lap of the race and eyed his first Vado win with a wild battle for position taking place behind him. Gorham’s bid for the win went up in smoke as he suffered a mechanical issue while out front, ending his night early and setting up a great battle for the lead for the remaining circuits.

Allen and Flores embarked on a thriller of a race out front with Allen holding on after a late-race restart for his first win of 2022. Flores crossed the line in second with Smith third.

Justin Allen won the USRA B-Mod main event.

The S&J Automotive Medieval USRA Stock Cars were up next with Fred Gibson taking the lead from the outside of the front row and pacing the field for the first several circuits until Rob Moseley raced by into the top spot and began to pull away from the field.

While Moseley was stretching his legs out front, Jason Josselyn was charging from the tail to do battle with Devon Jobin, Bryan Bennett, Jonathan Burton and Josh Reynolds in the top five.

The pack was putting on a great show for the fans while trying to track down Moseley for the top spot. Moseley’s lead continued to grow until he suffered a flat tire which ended his night and bid for a second win of the season.

Bennett inherited the lead and went on to hold off Josselyn for his third win of 2022 with Reynolds third at the checkered.

​Bryan Bennett won the Medieval USRA Stock Car main event.

The Rancho Milagro USRA Modified feature was the third on the schedule and produced one of the best races of the night as the 23-car field went green and pole sitter Jake Boles hopped into the lead at the wave of the green flag.

Boles took off out front with fifth-starting Jake Gallardo racing into second early, bringing his dad Fito Gallardo with him into the third spot. Jake didn’t waste much time sneaking by into the top spot and putting Boles back into second to try to fend off Fito for the runner-up spot.

Fito was able to get by into second and then as the leaders worked their way through lapped traffic, Fito was able to pounce on Jake and steal the lead in a wild skirmish on the front stretch with several lapped cars holding up Jake’s momentum for a split second.

A great battle behind the leaders was ongoing as well between Nick Rivera, Carlos Ahumada Jr., Royal Jones and Boles. Once out front though, Jake tried a slider on his dad to regain the lead, but Fito was too strong and raced off to his second win of the season. Jake finished second with 11th-starting Rivera third at the finish.

The Vado Speedway Park will be back in action this Saturday, May 7, with the first 250 moms receiving a complimentary carnation courtesy of Flowerland. Ken Schrader will be in competition in the USRA Modified division.

Pits open at 4 p.m., grandstands open at 5 and racing begins at 7:30.
