Southern Iowa Speedway set for 7th Stock Car Shootout
OSKALOOSA, Iowa (June 14, 2002) - The driver who wins the spotlighted feature may not even notice the fireworks display that brings the July 3-4 American Stock Car Shootout at Southern Iowa Speedway to a close. A $3,000 check awaits the winner of Thursday night's main event for I.M.C.A. Sunoco Stock Cars. That will be the biggest payday in the history of the division. The seventh annual event at Oskaloosa opens with the regular weekly program on Wednesday. The Stocks race for $500 to win, with the I.M.C.A. Sunoco Modifieds racing for $400 in top money and the I.M.C.A. Hobby Stock main paying $150 to the winner. Pit gates open at 4 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:15 p.m. and racing starts at 7 p.m. sharp. Stock Cars and Hobby Stocks take center stage for the July 4 program. Total purse for the Stock Car feature is more than $14,350, with a minimum of $200 to make the 24-car starting grid. Hobby Stock drivers race for $1,250 to win and at least $70 to start. Gates to the pit area open at 3 p.m., with 5:15 p.m. hot laps and 6 p.m. racing Grandstands open at 4 p.m. both days.
