Season Championships decided at Chateau Speedway after rain washes out Friday show
Track Champions for 2021 were to be finalized Friday at Chateau Speedway as Season Championships were scheduled. Instead, champions were crowned Friday morning when the track fell victim to rain for the seventh time this season. Only 12 of the scheduled 19 regular season races were run thanks to a run of wet Fridays this summer despite the so-called drought conditions.
Three weeks ago, the USRA B-Mod feature was rained out and the track has been rained out since. How that will play out and how it could affect those final standings has yet to be determined. Points are led for the third year in a row by Noah Grinstead of Austin pending one feature that is still in limbo.
Jason Cummins of New Richland added another notch to his belt as he collected his second straight track championship and sixth overall with titles from 2010, 2011, 2016, 2017, 2020 and 2021. Jacob Stark of Austin posted his career-best points finish as runner-up in the points chase. Doug Hillson of Blooming Prairie—the 2009 track champion—finished third this year ahead of Ryan Wetzstein of West Concord. Kylie Kath of Claremont—a four-time track champion (Pure Stocks in 2009 and USRA B-Mods in 2012, 2015 and 2016) rounded out the top five for the USRA Modifieds.
The 2021 season is not completed at Chateau Speedway. Friday, Sept. 10, will feature the “Spirit of 83” event with the 23rd running of the $2,500-to-win Mike Guttormson Memorial for USRA Modifieds along with the USRA B-Mod Challenge. The 4th Annual Autumn Extravaganza is also on the schedule for Friday amd Saturday, Oct. 1-2. Both events will feature both classes competing in a complete show for Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series national points.
