It was a glorious night for racing at Deer Creek Speedway for the annual Pink Out Night. The night is meant to raise awareness and educate people about breast cancer. It is also a good support event for those battling breast cancer.

There were all kinds of activities to raise money for Join The Journey. There was a 50/50 raffle, silent auction, event t-shirt sales and the push up challenge for the feature winners.

Each feature winner was challenged to od push ups in victory lane. Many businesses and individuals donated money for each push up the driver could do. When the five features were concluded, $11,835 was raised just with the pushups.

The program was presented by First Farmers & Merchants Bank, Weber Auto Parts, Evans Printing and Old Dutch Snacks. Over 100 cars signed in this week and the feature races were outstanding.

Twenty-six USRA B-Mods rolled out for their 18-lap feature. Dan Hovden came to town tonight and took off from row one and opened up a huge lead for most of the race. Hovden started to work lapped traffic just eight laps into the race.

Brandon Hare and Trevor Fecht had a great battle for second. Eyes were on Jim Chisholm who had and eight race win streak at eh speedway. Chisholm started seventh and worked his way to the front. Chisholm got to third on lap 12 and a yellow on lap 15 erased Hovden’s huge lead.

Chisholm darted to second and then set after Hovden. On the final lap Chisholm threw a slide job on Hovden in turn three to take the lead. Hovden crossed over Chisholm in turn four as the duo roared toward the checkered flag.

Hovden won by a couple of feet and ended Chisholm’s streak. Hare was third, Fecht was fourth and Noah Grinstead was fifth. Jett Sorensen passed 11 cars and earned a huge $400 hard charger award from Von Hagen Trucking.

The story of the night was in the 25-lap USRA Modified feature. Joe Ludemann and Kevin Stoa brought the field to the green flag. Stoa jumped to the lead and quickly pulled away.

Stoa held a big lead until a caution came out on lap 20. There were a couple of rough starts that knocked out top five contenders Ryan Wetzstein and Aaron Benson. When things settled down, Stoa once again pulled away from the pack.

Stoa led the final five laps to take the very popular win and his first at Deer Creek since October 2, 1999. It was only Stoa’s second week of racing this year after not racing at all in 2020 and everything came together for him to take the win.

A.J. Hoff had his best run in his rookie season for second and J.T. Wasmund also had a good run in third. David Baxter was solid in fourth and Joe Horgdal was fifth in his first appearance of the season.
