Huge points fund boost for USRA Limited Mods in 2021

With a solid army of USRA Limited Mod racers competing in the Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series during the 2020 campaign, along with additional sponsorship dollars announced for next season, USRA officials have announced a big increase in the division’s national points fund for 2021.

Beginning next year, USRA Limited Mod competitors will battle for more than double the points fund money as this year with $4,000 earmarked for the 2021 national champ if that racer is utilizing The American Racer KK704 racing tires on all four corners.

"After discussions with racers and track managers, we made the decision to permit the H500 tire in 2021 for the USRA Limited Mods," said USRA Director of Track Relations Bryce Hall. "Racers can use that or the American Racer KK704 racing tire in 2021. Track point funds will be paid out no matter which tire you choose, but to be eligible for USRA national points funds, you must be running the American Racers on all four corners by May 1."

At the request of multiple track operators, USRA tracks have the option to permit USRA B-Mods to race with the USRA Limited Mods. Rest assured, we will watch closely to be sure one is not getting an advantage over the other. These classes race together at specials throughout the year and the competition is usually evenly matched. We will permit USRA B-Mods to groove their tires but if we determine they are dominating we will stop allowing races to groove tires.

“Despite the pandemic that hit it March and all the craziness surrounding 2020, we had more racers than expected running USRA shows and, for the most part, USRA Member Racetracks have thrived in this tough environment,” said USRA President Todd Staley. “We think there’s a lot more room to grow, and as we grow and sponsors come aboard points funds will keep going up.”

The increase in the national points fund will also see twice as many drivers getting in on the action as the USRA is increasing the number of spots from 10 to 15.

Here’s the 2021 national points funds for the USRA Limited Mods:

1. $4,000
2. $2,500
3. $1,700
4. $1,200
5. $1,000
6. $800
7. $700
8. $600
9. $500
10. $400
11. $250
12. $250
13. $250
14. $250
15. $250

In addition to possessing a USRA license to be eligible for the entire points fund, a competitor must have competed in at least one-half of the events held at any one USRA Member Racetrack to be eligible for national points funds.

The USRA’s Director of Track Operations, Bryce Hall, added that the organization will be adding USRA Limited Mods to the Southern Region for the first time in 2021.

For the regional points payout, the top-finishing USRA Limited Mod competitor will earn $6 for every start made in 2021. Second-place will get $5 per start, third gets $4 per start and the fourth-place finisher in the region will earn $3 for each start.

Regional points are the cumulative track points earned by each driver in each region with no minimum or maximum—all races count for each driver, so the more one races the more points that competitor can accumulate.

To top it off, USRA Limited Mod drivers will also see an increase in track points funds in 2021 thanks to ongoing support from American Racer Racing Tires, Summit Racing Equipment, Mesilla Valley Transportation and dozens more great marketing partners.

More exciting announcements are forthcoming this week with news and information about each USRA-sanctioned division.
