Lucas Oil Speedway season begins Saturday
Lucas Oil Speedway kicks off the 2019 season on Saturday night with the Big Adventure RV Weekly Racing Series Spring Opener presented by Benne Media and Darron Fuqua will be looking to pick up where he left off.
Fuqua, of Mayetta, Kansas, won eight features in the Pitts Homes USRA Modified division in 2018 while marching to not only a track championship but also a USRA Modified National Championship in the Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series.
Chasing points won't be a priority this season for Fuqua, though when he's making the four-hour drive to south-Central Missouri he's going to be aiming for trip to victory lane.
"I'm just gonna race for the fun of it, wherever we feel like going," Fuqua said.
Fuqua has raced only once so far this season and it was an impressive run. He finished second in the prestigious King of America event at Humboldt Speedway in Kansas, climbing from a 27th-starting position.
"I was in the show and on the last lap of the B (feature) I got a little too aggressive and turned around another guy," Fuqua said. "I got a provisional and started the feature 27th. I was trying to survive. Then they shortened the race, when I had made it to fifth place. They told us there was gonna be 10 to go. I let her eat and got up to second."
Fuqua is not the only reigning USRA Modified National Champion returning to Lucas Oil Speedway.
Kris Jackson of Lebanon, while finishing third in track points, earned the Out-Pace USRA B-Mod national crown a year ago and headlines a strong field.
J.C. Morton of Springfield is the defending track champion in the division.

Drivers asked to sign up for MyRacePass: Lucas Oil Speedway drivers are encouraged to use the MyRacePass online registration to make for a smooth transition into the new season.
"This will help populate our system to make it very easy for you at the back gate each and every week," Lucas Oil Speedway Pit Office Manager Amber Hoelscher said. "Once you have registered, we will confirm your registration and you'll get an email confirmation. In that email, you will have the ability to claim or update your driver profile on MyRacePass.
"You will be able to login to your profile from a link in that email. Update your bio, add our schedule and update your sponsors. This will make things easier for our announcers and give your fans and family members a go-to spot to view your race stats.
"Plus, that is free for you to use. You'll also be able to login to the MyRacePass and view your driver hard card right inside the app to make the back gate experience that much better."
That registration can be accessed by clicking here.
