Jim Chishom won the Out-Pace USRA B-Mod main event.

Mitch Hovden and Jim Chisholm shared the spotlight Saturday night as the Iron Man Challenge charged into the Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn., for the 16th Annual A&A Electric Southern Minnesota Spring Challenge.

The largest field of Holley USRA Stock Cars to ever race at Deer Creek came out for the event. Thirty-four cars were slimmed down to a 25-car field for their 20-lap main.

Brayden Gjere led early but was passed by defending Iron Man Challenge champ Derek Green on lap two. Pete Solum and Mitch Hovden raced for third while ninth-starting Kyle Falck cracked the top five. Hovden bolted to second on a restart and Falck drove to third as they were right on Green up front.

Falck slipped to second on lap seven and then took the lead on lap nine. Hovden’s pass of Green for second on lap 10 would turn out to be a big one. Falck ran to the checkered flag first, but was disqualified in post-race technical inspection.

That handed the win and $725 winner’s check to Hovden—a four-time national champion in the Holley USRA Stock Car division—with Green second. Shawn Peter, Gjere and Dillon Anderson finished out the top five. Anderson started 17th and collected the $250 hard charger bonus.

In Out-Pace USRA B-Mod action, 47 drivers ran five heats and two American Racer “B” Mains to trim their cars down to a 25-car Summit Racing Equipment “A” Main field.

Chisholm, of Osage, Iowa, drove past A.J. Zvorak to take the lead on lap one. Jerry Young made a big charge to second, but dropped out early in the race.

Chisholm led the entire 20 laps and earned a $1,000 paycheck while defending Iron Man Challenge champion Dan Hovden worked his way from 10th to second with Zvorak ending up third.

All eyes were on J.T. Wasmund and Alex Williamson as they sliced their way through traffic. Williamson started 17th and Wasmund 18th. Wasmund charged all the way to fourth and apparently was the hard charger too but was tripped up in post-race tech and disqualified. Williamson was moved to fourth and Sam Wieben was fifth. Williamson and Dustin Kruse both advanced 13-positions and split the hard charger money.

Mitch Hovden won the Holley USRA Stock Car main event.

On Sunday, the 11th Annual Nordic Nationals presented by Weis Buick GMC takes place at the Upper Iowa Speedway in Decorah, Iowa, and will see the Iron Man Challenge featuring Holley USRA Stock Cars and Out-Pace USRA B-Mods plus Cook Racing Supplies USRA Hobby Stocks on the card.

The pit gate opens at 3 p.m., grandstands open at 4, hot laps start at 5:45 and the first heat race hits the track at 6. General admission is $20, juniors (ages 11-16) are $10 and kids ages 10 and under are free. Pit passes are $35.
