Cunningham Fertilizer Season Championships set for Sept. 30 at Pepsi Scotland County Speedway
MEMPHIS, Mo. -- The Cunningham Fertilizer Season Championships at the Pepsi Scotland County Speedway in Memphis, Mo., which were rained out back on Saturday, Aug. 26, has been rescheduled for Saturday, Sept. 30. The battle for the USRA Casey's General Stores Weekly Racing Series track points will come to an end and the 2006 Pepsi Scotland County Speedway track champions will be crowned at night's end.
Ryan Meyer currently leads Michael Long by 18 points in the Bentz GM Country USRA Modifieds. Meyer needs to finish fifth or better in the feature and he will be the 2006 track champion. Defending champion Tony Fraise has a nine-point lead over Mike Bennett in the battle for third place in points, while Jared Durbin holds a three-point lead over David Wietholder for the fifth place points finish. Bob Dale, Mark Burgtorf, Martin Bennett and Dennis Elliott round out the top-10 in points.
The defending track champion and current points leader in the USRA Stock Cars is Jason Cook. He holds a 32-point advantage over Matt Greiner in the battle for a repeat title. Cook needs to finish 11th or better in the feature and he will defend his track championship in the USRA Stock Cars. Troy Alexander leads Ryan Cook by four points in the battle for the third place finish in points. Mark Holt, Jeremy Hamlin, Jody Small, Steve Steinkuhler, Chris Wibbell and Brandon Elenbaas round out the top 10 in points entering the finale.
Tony Dunker doesn't even have to show up and he will still win the Advance Trading USRA B-Modified track championship. Dunker has a 153-point advantage over Jeff Waterman, which is enough for him to claim his first track championship at the Pepsi Scotland County Speedway. Waterman has a battle for second with Joe Hooper, as he holds a 23-point lead over him for the battle for second. Tom Bowen, Jim Gillenwater, Brandon Savage, Jerry Poor, Jack Evans Jr., Larry Newman and Josh Larson complete the top 10 in points.
The battle for the USRA Hobby Stock track championship will come down between USRA Casey's General Stores Weekly Racing Series national points leader Nathan Wood and Mike Shelton. Wood currently holds a 28-point lead over Shelton, and all Wood has to do in the feature is finish ninth or better and he will be crowned the first USRA Hobby Stock track champion at the Pepsi Scotland County Speedway. Bill Gibson, Jason VanZomeren, Rick Sands, Robby Sands, Chris Hudson, Clayton Robbins, Mark Moore and Daniel Robbins finish out the top 10 in points.
Beau Taylor has already clinched his first Outlaw Hobby Stock track championship at the Pepsi Scotland County Speedway. Taylor leads Rodger Dresden by 120 points -- enough to have already been crowned track champion. Dresden, however, has a battle with Brain Clark for second place in points. Dresden only leads Clark by two points. Jeff Soper sits in fourth, with Adam Birck holding a nine-point advantage over Brian Howerton for fifth, with Howerton leading Michael St. Clair by 12 points in the battle for sixth. Justin Hamelton, Jim Lynch and Jimmy Hooper round out the top 10.
All Andrew Hustead has to do is sign in on Saturday, Sept. 30, and the 2006 Hornet track championship is his. He leads Brent Hartley by 70 points. J.D. Murphy, Bill Young, Cody Martin, Brian Lemen, Jim Hamilton, Matt Moore, Gordon Blankenship Jr and Tyler Schulte complete the top 10.
Gates will open at 4:30 p.m., with hot laps at 6:30 and racing to follow. All pit passes and grandstand passes will be honored for those who had already paid before the rains moved in and canceled the event back on Aug. 26. Plus, this is a draw/redraw event, so any new cars are welcome to attend.
Come and see who will win the battle for the track championships at the Pepsi Scotland County Speedway on Saturday, Sept. 30. A huge field of cars is expected as this will be a great time for the drivers to come and try out the track before the 2nd Annual Pizza Hut Memphis Fall Nationals, Oct. 12-14.
