Bigger, better Kids' Bike Night coming to Lucas Oil Speedway
Last year's Kids' Bike Night at Lucas Oil Speedway saw 55 new bicycles given to young race fans. This year's event is June 29.
Lucas Oil Speedway officials are gearing up for one of the biggest nights of the year for young racing fans.
The Big Adventure RV Weekly Racing Series Casey's General Stores "Thursday Night Thunder" Presented by KY-3 for Kids program also is Kids' Night at the Races. For the second straight year, the speedway will give away as many bicycles as possible to kids in attendance that evening.
"Last year on Kids' Night at the Races we gave away 55 bicycles," Lucas Oil Speedway assistant General Manager Danny Lorton said. "This year we want to go well past that total and make it a memorable night for the kids coming to the races."
In order to do that, Lorton is asking speedway drivers, crew members, sponsors and fans for help. Anyone who wants to donate a new bicycle or money to help purchase bicycles can contact Lorton at the Lucas Oil Speedway office (417) 282-5984 or via email at DLorton@LucasOilSpeedway.com.
"My goal is to out-do what we did last year and in order to do that, we need to spread the word," Lorton said. "I'm encouraging anyone who's interested, be it a new bicycle or giving money towards buying one, to please contact me so we can make it happen."
New bicycles—boys and girls models—can be dropped off at the track or donations can be dropped off at the speedway office or mailed to Lucas Oil Speedway, 700 East Highway 54, Wheatland, Mo., 65779. Checks should be made out to Lucas Oil speedway and marked "bicycle giveaway."
The bicycles will be given away during intermission on June 29. Kids can sign up for the bicycle drawing at the Frogs Jr. Fan Club Table at the speedway that evening and drawings will be based on age groups and size of the bicycles.
A big fireworks show also is scheduled for after the action, courtesy AM Pyrotechnics.
Action at Lucas Oil Speedway resumes this Saturday with the Big Adventure RV Weekly Racing Series firing back up. NMI/VMG Marketing Group and Wild Animal Safari team up to present this week's program, featuring all four Weekly Racing Series classes - the Warsaw Auto Marine & RV ULMA Late Models, the Pitts Homes USRA Modifieds, the Big O Tires Street Stocks and the Ozark Golf Cars USRA B-Mods.
The Pitts Homes USRA Modifieds will be running a special 25-lap, $750-to-win feature as the weekly classes look to race for the first time since the Spring Nationals finale on April 15. Two straight rainouts followed and that makes it difficult to build any early season momentum.
Gates open at 5 p.m. with hot laps at 7 and racing at 7:35. A limited number of suites are available. Contact admissions director Nichole McMillan (417) 282-5984 by via email Nichole@Lucasoilspeedway.com for more information.
