Race coverage lineup announced by Algona Radio 92.7 FM

ALGONA, Iowa -- An extensive local race coverage lineup was announced recently by KLGA 92.7 FM in Algona.

Chad Meyer, show host and producer, said that 2006 will be a busy year for the station covering local race news.

“This will be the second consecutive year of producing four radio shows dedicated to covering our local race tracks and drivers every week,” said Meyer. “We’ve spent the last three years re-building our race programming and judging by the input from fans last year, we’ve hit on something that people really like to listen to.”

Meyer went on to say that KLGA has broadcasted local racing shows for many years and has seen resurgence in interest in the programming.

“Every week somebody on the street stops me to say that they tune in to one of the shows, even non-race fans,” Meyer added.

The wildly popular race show -- the Schaeffer Oil (www.SchaefferOil.com) Hour of Horsepower -- and the Primetime Restaurant Racing Challenge will return to the airwaves every Thursday afternoon from 4-5 p.m. beginning April 27.

“During this fast-paced hour, we discuss the upcoming events at our two local dirt tracks plus other regional racing news. The content is geared for both the hardcore racing enthusiasts and the causal fan. Listeners also have the opportunity to call in to win free admission tickets to either the Algona Raceway or the Pritchard Family Auto Stores Hancock County Speedway,” Meyer noted.

The STAATS Awards (www.STAATSawards.com) Trackside Live program returns Friday night, April 21, at 6:15 p.m. with live pre-race coverage from the Pritchard Family Auto Stores Hancock County Speedway in Britt, while the Monson Auto Salvage Trackside Live program is heard every Saturday night at 5:45 p.m. from the Algona Raceway.

“Every week we focus on interviewing the people that make racing possible at both venues. Regulars during the pre-race shows include track promoters, local and regional racers plus event sponsors. The AERO Race Wheels driver interview in each show has been the cornerstone that these programs were built on,” said Meyer.

Fans can catch the racing recap and point standings updates each Saturday morning at 9:05 a.m. during the AmberWave Communications Racing Report. Local track promoter Joe Ringsdorf joins the air staff to discuss news and results from his race tracks. Chad Meyer also provides the recap of the previous night’s activity from the speedway in Britt.

Station officials also said that a new Internet web site is in the works and will be available soon. Meyer explained that when it is completed, fans will be able to listen to all the race shows live via the site, plus hear archived programs and racer interviews.
