Memphis Spring Nationals cancelled
MEMPHIS, Mo. -- Mother Nature is back to her old tricks.
More than four inches of snow fell at the Pepsi Scotland County Speedway on Monday, forcing track officials to cancel the inaugural Memphis Spring Nationals, scheduled for this weekend at the Memphis, Mo., speedplant.
"We were really looking forward to this race, but it just won't be possible now," said event promoter Todd Staley. "The storm that rolled through this week has left the racetrack grounds a real mess, and crews will simply not have the time to get the track prepared like it needs to be for an event like this."
Weather permitting, next weekend (Saturday, April 1) will be the first race of the 2006 season as the O'Reilly Auto Parts United States Modified Touring Series invades the 3/8-mile clay oval. Many of the nation's top Pro Modified pilots will be on hand as the O'Reilly USMTS will also visit the Mountain Dew Bloomfield Speedway in Bloomfield, Iowa, on Friday, March 31, making for a tremendous weekend doubleheader.
