Dotson claims Central Missouri Speedway victory
WARRENSBURG, Mo.—The sun finally returned and after some hard work by the track maintenance crew, Central Missouri Speedway fans and drivers took in a great night of racing to kick off the two-day Memorial Day Weekend of racing.
Fans and drivers alike enjoyed some family time on the patriotic holiday weekend spending some time at CMS with 100 cars on hand. Matt Dotson from Hallsville battled for the USRA Modified feature and claimed his first CMS feature win of the year.
A healthy count of 32 USRA Modified drivers checked in for racing. This week during the heat races the fans were once again thrilled to see some entertaining racing as Brian Johnson, Danny Scrogham, Gunner Martin and Lewis Jackson claimed the heat wins.
The USRA Modifieds are always exciting to watch at CMS and last evening was another thriller. Scrogham dove low into the first turn to lead early and led for the first 17 laps before a caution flag emerged. Jackson used the high side on the multi-grooved surface to maintain third. Meanwhile, Johnson stayed in the mix until late in the race when he suffered a mechanical issue after a restart in turn two ended his night.
Matt Dotson pressured Scrogham later in the race after several restarts and finally made it stick in turn one after it appeared Scrogham’s car couldn’t hold the low side. Chad Lyle also moved up with Aaron Marrant to battle in the top three until Lyle’s car had a mechanical issue on the final lap, which ended his night. Dotson prevailed in the end and claimed his first CMS USRA Modified win this season. Marrant hung on and grabbed the second spot after Lyle departed the track. Scrogham also moved back up into third for his best finish this season. Tanner Mullins inside the top five.

Be sure to check out www.centralmissourispeedway.net for complete details on the Memorial Day Weekend plan of events, once you land on the site, look for the “Memorial Day Weekend Info” tab, which includes information on purses throughout the weekend, admission prices, start times, driver entry fees, and much more!
USRA Modified drivers should take note of the special bonuses offered by promoters Earl and Susan Walls for the big three summer holiday special events. For any driver who wins the Memorial Day $3,000-to-win race and then also wins the Tom Wilson Memorial over Independence Day weekend, and then goes on to win the $3,000-to-win race later in the year over Labor Day weekend, they will earn a $5,000 bonus for the clean sweep. If you add the base purse “to win” money for the three events together it totals $11,000. Now add on another $7,500 in bonus money and that totals a whopping possible $18,500 going to a driver who sweeps all three events. However, there’s still a $2,500 bonus for any driver that doubles up and wins any two of the three big money events this summer.
