IRA Outlaw Sprint Car Series set to invade Cresco for annual Labor Day Classic

CRESCO, Iowa -- This Sunday, Sept. 4, the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Car Series returns to the Cresco Speedway for what has exploded into one of the most popular and hotly-contested annual sprint car shows in the midwest.

Scotty Neitzel will be looking for his first Labor Day Classic win this Sunday.
For fans of the fire-breathing 410 winged sprints, the year-long wait was extended another year by last season's rain-out of the Labor Day Classic.

But have no fear, relief is in sight!

More than 40 entries are expected for Sunday's shootout at the 4/10-mile Cresco, Iowa, speedplant, including two-time defending Labor Day Classic winner Ricky Logan, as well as the regular winged warriors of the traveling IRA circuit. In addition, many of the top guns competing at the Knoxville (Iowa) Raceway season championship on Saturday have indicated their plans to head north and tackle the much-ballyhooed Cresco clay.

In the IRA's 2003 visit to Cresco, 41 cars signed in to do battle with Brian Brown clocking a new (and still current) track record with a blistering time of 13.485 seconds in time trials. With the track being faster and smoother than ever before, Brown's mark is likely in jeopardy of being shattered this weekend.

Kim Mock hopes to be a contender at Cresco.
Two-time Labor Day Classic winner Joe Roe, who currently sits third in the IRA points standings, will be looking to capture another crown, along with current IRA points leader Scotty Neitzel. Scott Young sits second in the IRA points, and is coming off a win at the IRA's most recent race in Oshkosh, Wis.

In addition to the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Car Series, fans will get a taste of the action that made the Cresco Speedway the most exciting track in Iowa in 2005 as the USRA Stock Cars, Hobby Stocks, Street Stocks and Hornets will also be in action.

Gates will open at 4 p.m. on Sunday, with hot laps slated for 6 p.m. Time trials are set to begin at 6:30, and fans are encouraged to arrive early to get the best seats possible.

General admission adult tickets are just $15, with kids ages 6-12 admitted for $5. As always at Cresco, children ages 5 and under are admitted FREE.

The Cresco Speedway is located 0.2 mile north of SR 9 on SW 7th (at the Howard County Fairgrounds). For more information, call 515-832-7944. For race day weather information, call 563-547-4996. Visit the Cresco Speedway online at www.CrescoSpeedway.com.
