Stock Car, Hobby Stock drivers looking to strike it rich at Britt, Aug. 10-12
BRITT, Iowa — The Midwest’s toughest Stock Car and Hobby Stock drivers will flex their muscles Aug. 10-12 as the Pritchard Family Auto Stores Hancock County Speedway in Britt, Iowa hosts the inaugural USRA Stock Car Nationals.
Co-sponsored by Unicover, Casey’s General Store and Max Yield, the event is the richest ever staged at the 3/8-mile clay oval. A whopping $10,000 awaits the winner of Friday night’s Stock Car finale, while the Hobby Stock winner will take home $2,000.
Qualifying for one of the 24 starting spots in each of Friday’s main events will be a test of wills as the last-place finishers will earn a bigger paycheck than they can normally cash for winning a feature race. Stock Cars will pay $560 to start Friday’s 40-lap feature, while drivers taking the green flag in the 25-lap Hobby Stock finale are guaranteed $200.
The “who’s who” of Stock Car racing are already registered for this instant classic, including Brad Pinkerton of New Sharon – a two-time winner of the $10,000-to-win Great American Stock Challenge at the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa. Local ace Jeff Nielsen of Pocahontas, who picked up $1,200 at the Fourth of July special at Britt, will also be among the many contenders for the Stock Car title. Other drivers already pre-entered include Shay Curtin, Chad Palmer, Ryan Cook, Jason Cook, Craig Berhow, Larry Portis, Bobby Greiner Jr., Kevin Bidne, Rob Hughes, Dan Jones, Eric Flander, Shawn Peter, Brian Gjere, John Pletcher, Mike Bergan, Tom Schmitt, Joe Paullin, Scott Bauer, Lynn Panos, Luke Veren, Dave Hubbard, John Oliver, Jake Ludeking, John Campbell, Kevin Hoeft, Zack VanderBeek, Jared Dirks, Ryan Hiscocks, Jeff Dolphin, Travis Thornton and Rick Stockman.
An open practice for drivers to test and tune their machines is scheduled for Tuesday night, Aug. 9 from 6-9:30 p.m. Pit passes for the practice session will be $15, with free admission for grandstand spectators wishing to watch the pre-race testing.
Racing action will get underway on Wednesday night, Aug. 10 with the top six cars in both the Stock Car and Hobby Stock features getting locked into the inside row of Friday night’s main events. On Thursday night, the top six will lock themselves into the outside rows. Friday night will see last chance races to fill the final 12 starting spots.
Gates will open at 4 p.m. each night, with hot laps slated at 7 and racing to follow. Grandstand admission will be $12 for adults on Wednesday and Thursday, with Friday night’s finale $15. Kids ages 6-14 are $3 on Wednesday and Thursday, then $5 on Friday. Children ages 5 and under are admitted FREE all three nights.
