Darron Fuqua sped to victory in an exciting USRA Modified main evnet on Friday, Aug. 28, at the Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan.

KANSAS CITY, Kan.—CARB Night at Lakeside Speedway was a good time for all in attendance on Friday night. The action on the track was well worth the price of admission on this special night.

In the USRA Modified feature an extra bonus of $500 was on the line for the winner courtesy of Kenny’s Tile Racing. CARB also put money into the purse on this night as well, so that meant that the drivers had something extra to battle it out for and it showed on the track.

Former track champ John Allen got out to the early lead. A strong battle went on behind Allen as Kerry Davis, Nic Bidinger, Jared Steins, Tim Karrick and Darron Fuqua were all mixing it up.

Lap 8 saw Davis go by Allen for the lead as a lapped car got in the way. Davis, a seven-time feature winner this season, started to establish a big lead as the race wore on.

Just past the halfway point, Darron Fuqua started to close the gap on Davis and set the stage for a battle at the top spot with lapped traffic starting to get in the way.

As the two front-runners cleared lapped traffic it was Davis still at the point. Fuqua, who had been running the bottom, decided to move up to the top of the track in turns 1-2. It might have been the right choice.

Fuqua’s move to the top of the track allowed him to carry some momentum as he passed Davis on lap 15. At the front of the field it was all Fuqua to the finish. He started seventh on the grid and drove to his second win of the 2015 season.

Davis, the USRA Modified points leader, held on to the runner-up spot at the finish. Third went to Karrick while early leader Allen finished in the 4th position. Bidinger rounded out the top 5.

Chase Austin might be the hottest driver currently at Lakeside Speedway. In the past three USRA B-Mod features, Austin has two wins and a very close second. His streak makes him a driver to watch on Friday night.Chase Austin (111) battles Eddie Schwope (91) for the lead in the USRA B-Mod feature. (Reed Bros. Racing Photos)

In the early part of the feature it was Eddie Schwope taking the top spot. Schwope held on to the top spot past the halfway point while Luke Nieman and Austin put on a great duel for the second spot. Tight wheel to wheel racing for several laps was evident.

A caution came out and change the complexion of the race.

On the restart it was Schwope, Shad Turner, who charged up to the front, and Austin in the top 3. Another yellow came, this time as a drive shaft came out of the second-place car of Turner.

The green flag waved and the racing action intensified at the front of the pack. Austin made a run at Schwope for the the lead with four laps remaining. Austin, working the high line, made the pass coming out of turn 2 on lap 13. Once in the lead, he closed the door on the competition and sped off to the checkers.

The win was his third of the season. The runner-up spot went to Schwope. Nieman, who is second in points, finished in third while fourth went to Nick Newton, who started ninth. Points leader Ed Noll came home in the fifth position.

In the USRA Stock Car Feature it was Brett Heeter, the points leader, and Tom Fogarty bringing in the field to the green to start this race off.Brett Heeter captured his seventh win this season in the USRA Stock Cars. (Reed Bros. Racing Photos)

A big duel would develop at the top between Heeter and Kevin Anderson. A whopping total of 13 feature wins between these two drivers made this rivalry what it is.

Heeter grabbed control after an early restart and never relinquished the top spot the rest of the way. Anderson pressured him but he never got close enough to mount a full-scale assualt.

Heeter raced his way to his seventh feature win by the end of the night, and remains in the points lead with a handful of races left on the season.

Anderson finished in the second spot, third was Nate Barnes, fourth went to Gary Donaldson and Forgarty finished in the fifth position.

USRA Weekly Racing Series racing action will continue next Friday night, Sept. 4, as the Lucas Oil MLRA Late Model Series will join the USRA Modifieds, USRA Stock Cars and USRA B-Mods.
