Clancy captures pair of wins at I-35 Speedway

WINSTON, Mo. -- The make-up feature for the USRA B-Mod class was first to take to the track Saturday night at the I-35 Speedway and did not let down the capacity crowd in attendance. Gene Claxton jumped to the early lead from the pole position and used his experience to hold off all challengers until Chad Clancy used the extreme high line to perfection on his way past Claxton and on to victory. Claxton finished a close second as Jim Cameron placed third. Matt Dorssom battled Nic Hanes to place fourth, holding Hanes to fifth. Heat race winners were Clancy, Claxton and Blake Pierce.

The USRA Stock Car class was in usual fine fashion and impressed everyone as they raced two- and three-wide throughout the entire feature. Victory lane saw a new winner as Justin Seifert held off all challengers to claim the checkers. Dean Wray raced Seifert both high and low, all the while having to hold off the advances of Thomas Roberts, Jeff Dixon and Billie Hoover. When the smoke had settled, Wray was second with Roberts charging to third. Jeff Dixon, after battling his father, Darrel Whitt, for what seemed like side-by-side racing for several laps, broke free to place fourth. Billie Hoover recovered from an early race mishap and climbed his way through the pack for a consistent fifth. Heat race winners were Roberts and John Crews.

With a feature that would see only one caution, the USRA B-Mod class continues to impress each week. Clancy performed the incredible feat of winning the second feature of the evening. Clancy raced his way through the pack taking no prisoners while holding off the late race pursuit of second-place finisher Yancy Shepard. Jake Richards battled inside and out to take third place as Cameron used the high line to come home fourth. Hanes used a last-lap push on the high side of turn 3 to bring his Mopar-powered machine to another top-five finish on the night. Heat race winners included Doug Keller, Clancy, Cameron, Randy Ainsworth and Hanes. “B” feature winners were Dustin Campbell and Jayden Bears.

The USRA Modified feature had every heart in the grandstand pumping with side-by-side, door-handle-to-door-handle, bumper-to-bumper racing like no other. With six lead changes and close racing from the top of the track to bottom, Dennis Elliott made the right moves at the right times to put himself in the winner’s circle. With impressive moves on the high side of the track, Darren Shaw passed the very fast Issac Dotson to finish second forcing Dotson to third. Points leader Zach Sanders started outside row 1 and led early only to fade in the late stages to place fourth. The always consistent Jim Hopkins raced his way to another top-five finish. Heat race winners were Sam Florence and Shaw.

I-35 Speedway would like to thank all of our great fans for filling the bleachers and cheering on all their favorite drivers. Hats off to the impressive job each and every class of drivers displayed on and off the track. Thanks to all the kids and adults alike who enjoyed a great night of “Front Stretch Fishing”.
