The Buzz lives on at Super Bee Speedway

CHATHAM, La. (Jan. 24, 2026)—Ever since 1988, there has been a buzz around Chatham, Louisiana—and that buzz is the love of dirt track racing at Super Bee Speedway.
As the story goes, the name Super Bee had already been chosen thanks to an infatuation with the iconic 1969 Super Bee muscle car. But on the very first day workers broke ground to build the racetrack, they disturbed something unexpected—bees. Swarms of them. As the construction crew scattered, ownership knew right then and there that the name Super Bee was more than fitting—it was meant to be.
Over the years, Super Bee Speedway has gone by many names, but one thing has remained constant: racing has lived on that property in Chatham since 1988. That streak, however, was nearly broken heading into 2026 until Matt and Casey Takewell stepped in to keep the buzz alive.
“I grew up around this track,” Matt Takewell said. “My very first race at Super Bee Speedway was when I was just nine years old, and from that moment on, I fell in love with the sport. This track has always felt like home to me. Over the years, it’s been the backdrop for countless memories—family, friends, Saturday nights under the lights, and the unmistakable sound of race cars echoing through the stands.”
Eventually, his love for the track turned into something more than just fandom.
Since purchasing the facility, things have moved fast—and intentionally so.
“It has truly been a whirlwind so far,” Takewell said. “There is still a long road ahead, but the support we’ve received from racers, fans, sponsors, and the community has been more incredible than I ever could have imagined. It’s been humbling, motivating, and deeply meaningful.”
Takewell’s vision for Super Bee Speedway is already taking shape. Less than a week after purchasing the track, a full schedule was released, highlighted by visits from major touring series, as well as the 33rd Annual Spooky 50 at season's end.
With the closure of The Rev, Super Bee Speedway will play a vital role in keeping dirt track racing alive on the east side of Louisiana. USRA Limited Mods, Sunoco USRA Factory Stocks and USRA Tuners will headline the action at the 1/4-mile semi-banked clay oval with Crate Late Models, Street Stocks and Pro-Mods joining the action on a regular basis.
“I’m beyond excited for what this journey will bring—not just for me, but for my family, my friends and everyone who loves this place as much as I do,” Takewell said. “The memories that will be made down at that little circle track in Chatham, Louisiana, will last a lifetime.
