HUMBOLDT, Kan. -- Through the smoke and dust generated by a massive fireworks display and an awesome USRA Modified feature, one man well known to the huge crowd at the Humboldt Speedway emerged as a champion.

That man, Springfield, Mo., driver Jeremy Payne dominated the McCarthy Auto Group/USRA Modified field, and led the field for a full 40 laps.

Very few cautions led to Payne showing remarkable skill in dealing with lapped traffic, even as runner-up Darron Fuqua closed the gap and threatened to take the lead on numerous occasions.

Carthage, Mo., driver Jackie Dalton, a newcomer, was third.

John Allen and Matt Dotson raced their way into the main event out of the “B” features and finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

There is one small caveat, however: post-race tech has resulted in tire samples being taken from the second- and third-place finishers, thus results remain unofficial until test results are finalized.

Special thanks to the folks at Hillsdale Storage, who provided the material for a post-race fireworks show that ran for the better part of an hour.
