Angst all smiles at Fairmont

FAIRMONT, Minn. (August 8, 2025)—Persistence finally paid off for Josh Angst on Saturday night at Fairmont Raceway, as he captured his first USRA Northern Lights Modified Series victory of the year during the 2nd Annual Dwaine Hanson Memorial.
Coming into the night with three straight top-five finishes, Angst looked poised to contend from the pole position. However, series rookie Harley Dais had other plans, muscling his way to the front by the end of the opening lap. Angst quickly regrouped and reclaimed the lead just two laps later, setting the pace for the majority of the 20-lap main event.
The race appeared to be in Angst’s control until the closing laps, when slower traffic allowed Dais to reel him in. At the white flag, Dais was just a car length back and made one last aggressive move in turn four, tapping the rear of the No. 99 and sending it sideways coming to the checkered flag. Angst gathered it up and narrowly held off Dais at the line to secure the dramatic win.
“It feels really good to get this one done,” Angst said in victory lane. “Our team is really rolling right now. We weren’t planning on running this tour but we’re fourth in points and having fun. Look forward to some tracks that are more familiar to us to end the year.”
Deatherage Opticians Qualifying was paced by Rodney Sanders, while the three heat race victories went to Jacob Bleess, Brandon Davis, and Harley Dais.
Up next for the Northern Lights Modifies sees a return trip to the Mason City Speedway on Sunday August, 24th. To follow along with all things USRA Northern Lights Modified Series, you can find us on social media or go to our website at www.northernlightsmodifiedseries.com.
