Wolff wins big on Thursday Night Thunder at Lucas Oil Speedway

WHEATLAND, Mo. (July 3, 2025)—What a Thursday night it was for Tyler Wolff at Lucas Oil Speedway. Gobbling up huge chunks of ground over the final five laps, Wolff caught and passed race-long leader Tanner Mullens on the final lap to capture the Heartland Modified Tour win on Casey's Thursday Night Thunder.

That wasn't all for the Fayetteville, Ark., driver. Wolff came back a couple of races later and scored a runaway win in the Hermitage Lumber Late Model main event to make the kickoff to his July Fourth Weekend even better.

"I never thought I'd ever win here in a Late Model and I sure never thought I'd win twice in the same night. It's incredible," Wolff said after the Late Model win.

Wolff earned $2,000 for the victory in the Heartland Modified Tour headliner in front of a big crowd that stuck around to enjoy post-race fireworks. There were 53 USRA Modifieds in the pits as a total of 152 cars in four divisions were on hand for the holiday special.

Other winners on the program, which featured a bicycle giveaway for kids during intermission, were Doug Keller (USRA Stock Cars) and Ryan Edde (USRA B-Mods).

Wolff appeared to be a longshot for the USRA Modified win as Mullens, who already had won six HMT features this season, had a three-second lead with just a handful of laps remaining. But Wolff didn't give up and emerged from his car an excited winner in victory lane.

"There's cars parked all the way out to the highway. It's incredible to see everyone here," Wolff said of the crowd. "It's awesome to win in front of everyone. I can't believe we got the win. Tanner was pretty good and that lapped traffic helped us out."

Mullens started from the pole and rolled to a 2.4-second lead after just five laps. Wolff got around Fuqua for second by lap 10, but faced a three-second deficit to the leader. Wolff soon began to whittle the margin during an extended green-flag run, drawing within 1.4 seconds by lap 17 as Fuqua was another three seconds back.

Racing in lapped traffic, Mullens’ margin was down to one second by lap 21. But then Mullens took advantage of Wolff’s troubles clearing slower cars and extended his lead back to nearly three seconds over the next two laps.

With action remaining caution-free, Wolff cleared traffic and starting to close ground. He was right behind Mullens by lap 28, then caught and passed the leader on the inside of turn two on the final circuit to pull off the victory.

“I knew I wanted to try one last-ditch effort," Wolff said. "I didn't want to show my nose until that last lap and made it work. I'm glad to be here. It's nice to be sitting in the catbird seat every once in a while. I was watching what he was doing and I knew if I could stick it in one and two I'd have a pretty good chance. It worked out."

Mullens was disqualified in post-game technical inspection. That elevated Terry Phillips to second place with Fuqua third, Nic Bidinger fourth and Cole Campbell fifth.

Keller tops USRA Stock Cars with late pass: Doug Keller of Easton, Mo., made his first USRA Stock Cars start of the season a winning one, leading the final two circuits to beat Tyler Cadwallader for the feature win.

For much of the race, it appeared that Mason Beck would lead all 20 laps. The pole-starting Beck set the pace from the start with Cadwallader advancing from fifth to second by lap two. Beck had a five-second lead five laps in when the race’s second caution appeared.

Keller applied pressure on Beck after the restart, with several others close behind. Keller repeatedly tried to find a way around Beck and finally squeezed past the leader on the inside of turn one on lap 16.

But as those two battled, Cadwallader grabbed the lead on lap 17 only to see Keller regain the point the next time around. Keller was able to hang on the final two laps and beat Cadwallader by .781 seconds.

“It’s hard racing your friends,” Keller said. “Mason was a little bit slower on entry and I kept backing the corner up hoping I could get a run. Once I got door-to-door, I was like ‘dude, you at least have to give me a lane.’ Then we got all kinds of crazy there for a lap and we were three wide. I was like ‘calm down and and get back to your marks.

“I love to run the bottom and made it stick there and it felt pretty good.”

Beck settled for third with William Garner fourth and Justin Custer fifth.

Edde all the way in USRA B-Mods: Ryan Edde of Cross Timbers started on the pole and led all 20 laps for the Clear Creek Golf Cars USRA B-Mod victory—his first career win at Lucas Oil Speedway.

“I've raced here for a long time and this is the first one," Edde said. "The track was to my liking tonight, nice and slick, and I just tried to be smooth and steady and not make too many mistakes."

Ryan Gillmore started fifth and moved into second by lap four and began his pursuit of Edde, but he was 1.5 seconds behind at the midpoint on lap 10. A caution on lap 11 wiped out Edde’s margin with nine to go.

Edde got away on the restart to a half-second lead that he maintained by lap 15 over Gillmore and Jon Sheets. Edde stretched it out to a full second by lap 18 and took it home from there for his first Lucas Oil Speedway win of the season, beating Gillmore by 1.5 seconds.

Sheets was third with Ewing fourth and J.C. Morton fifth.
