‘The Professor’ prescribes victory at Lucas Oil Speedway

John Allen won the USRA Stock Car main event.
WHEATLAND, Mo. (June 14, 2025)—John Allen has raced sparingly over the last few years. But the 56-year-old from Chanute, Kan., who's won dozens of championships, is showing that he still knows how to find victory lane.
Allen led all 25 laps Saturday night at Lucas Oil Speedway, beating Mason Beck for the O'Reilly Auto Parts USRA Stock Cars feature victory. It was the headliner of the Pitts Homes and Realty Weekly Racing Series and worth $750.
"When you only race a couple of times a year, it's hard to get over here," Allen said after driving the car normally piloted by his son, Kenton, to a second win in two attempts. John Allen also won at 81 Speedway on June 7.
Other feature winners as 118 cars checked into the pits included Tyler Wolff (USRA Modifieds) and Ryan Gillmore (USRA B-Mods).
Front-row starters Allen and Johnny Fennewald battled it out early with Allen leading the way. Caution flew on lap five just after Beck was challenging Fennewald for second place.
Allen was dedicated to the low groove and continued to lead the way as Fennewald and Beck battled behind him. By lap 10 of the 25-lapper, Allen led by 1.1 seconds and he gradually kept extending the margin from there with a 2.3-second command by lap 19.
But the cushion when a caution flew for Dawson Fennewald’s spin, setting the stage for a six-lap sprint to the finish.
It didn’t matter. Allen had a flawless restart and drove away, beating Beck by 1.4 seconds at the finish.
“I had a little rough go in the heat race and I want to apologize the guy we banged into," Allen said. "It was just a bad deal all around. My guys worked until we lined up, fixing this thing and she held together."
Track points leader William Garner rallied into third with Christopher Sawyer fourth and Johnny Fennewald fifth.
Wolff earns USRA Modifeid win: Tyler Wolff of Fayetteville, Ark., took the lead just past the halfway mark and went on to capture the Arctic Food Equipment USRA Modified feature, beating Chase Sigg by nearly four seconds.
The race was bogged down by four early cautions, including a five-car pileup in turn four before lap two could be completed. Points leader Nic Bidinger was involved and was only able to complete two laps.
On a lap-three restart, Williams got around early leader Ryan Middaugh in turn four before a fourth caution flew. Once action resumed and green-flag action settled in, the fourth-starting Wolff moved into second with Middaugh falling back.
Williams held a .691-second lead over Wolff at the midpoint on lap 10, but Wolff grabbed the lead on lap 13 coming off turn two. Sigg moved into second on lap 15, but Wolff was making it a runaway by then, leading by nearly two seconds.
Wolff breezed from there, with his official margin of victory 3.7 seconds.
"I've got to thank my dad. He's helped me get to this point," Wolff said. "I was hoping no one fell asleep at the beginning. Then we went single file and I was a little nervous. I was in fourth place there and stuck to the bottom and that seemed to work for us and kind of picked 'em off as we went."
Williams settled for third with Henry Chambers fourth and Dalton Teel fifth.
Gillmore rallies from 13th for USRA B-Mod win: Ryan Gillmore of Springfield drove from 13th at the start to the front by lap 15 and went on to capture the Clear Creek Golf Cars USRA B-Mod feature win.
The night’s final feature saw Sheets, Trevor Drake and JC Morton in a three-car breakaway early. Caution after lap two saw Morton hit the big tractor tire guarding the inside of turn one, damaging the front of his car and ending his hopes for a two-win night.
When action resumed, Sheets maintained his led with Drake and Cole Campbell applying heavy pressure. By lap 13, the trio were into lapped cars and Gillmore, who had been picking off cars one by one, suddenly was a factor.
Just two laps later, it was Gillmore driving into the lead with Sheets falling back to third behind Drake. Gillmore appeared to be on his way to taking full command, opening a 1.7-second lead by lap 17 when a caution wiped out his margin and set it up for a three-lap race to the finish.
Gillmore held on from there for his second win of the Lucas Oil Speedway season and seventh overall, beating Sheets by .486 seconds.
“The last two or three laps we had, I kind of missed the corner once and I heard Jon," noting that he "had to throw him off and do what I could" to hold him off.
Gillmore, after using the low groove most of the way, went to the high side into turn one of the ifnal lap. It worked, just enough, to get the win.
"As usual, Jon races me really clean," Gillmore said.
Drake finished third with Campbell fourth and Robbe Ewing fifth.
