West Union wins to Hovden duo

Mitch Hovden won the USRA Stock Car main event.
WEST UNION, Iowa (June 6, 2025)—Friday night’s Hall of Fame Night presented by US Cellular at Fayette County Speedway honored racing legends while delivering intense Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series action. A packed grandstand cheered on local drivers as they battled for supremacy across four divisions, celebrating the track’s storied history.
In the USRA Stock Car feature, Mitch Hovden of Decorah surged to victory, overtaking early leader Cody Torkelson of Elgin, who finished second. Troy Hansmeier of Waukon took third, followed by Derek Dettmann of McGregor in fourth and Glen Jones of Harpers Ferry in fifth. Hovden’s win, his first of the season at West Union, was a fitting tribute to the Hall of Fame inductees celebrated during the event.
The USRA B-Mod feature saw Dan Hovden of Decorah dominate from the sixth starting spot, securing the checkered flag. Ben Moudry of Protivin finished a strong second, with Kyle Anderson of Decorah in third. Dale Schwamman of Fort Atkinson and Travis Scholbrock of West Union rounded out the top five. Hovden credited the track’s smooth surface for allowing him to charge through the field in front of an appreciative hometown crowd.
Daryl Moss of West Union thrilled the fans in the USRA Hobby Stock feature, charging from eighth to claim the victory. Taylor Donlan of Decorah took second, followed by Junior Boyer of Calmar in third. Ryan Crooks of Ionia and BJ Dahl of Calmar completed the top five. Moss, a local favorite, dedicated his win to the Hall of Fame members, noting their influence on his racing career.
In the USRA Tuner feature, Nolan Lerch of West Union led from start to finish to earn the win. Jeremy Hills of Postville finished second, with Dalton Fels of Calmar in third. Dillon Riehle of Waukon and Perry Kessel of Cresco took fourth and fifth, respectively. Lerch’s victory was a highlight of the night, as the young driver celebrated his first feature win of the season on Hall of Fame Night.
Fayette County Speedway returns to action Wednesday, June 11, with the 12th Annual War in West Union, featuring USMTS Modifieds, Pro Late Models, USRA Stock Cars and USRA Hobby Stocks.
